This month I decided to take a look at 15 animated Blu-ray titles that I like to use for demonstration material. I will reiterate some of the pertinent comments from my original article as they are applicable here as well. Since the advent of high definition media, we as enthusiasts have strived to seek out the titles that would satisfy our insatiable thirst for the type of high quality presentations that give us that special thrill when we see them on our displays at home.... read more

AVS Forum's Top 10 Powered Soundbars

If you don't have the space or the inclination to install a full-on surround-speaker system—say, in a bedroom or other secondary zone—you might think you're stuck listening to the TV's onboard audio, which is almost always dreadful. But there is an alternative that greatly improves on the sound of the TV's speakers without taking up much space at all—a soundbar.   Most soundbars have speaker drivers in a long, narrow, horizontal housing that is placed directly below—or possibly above—the TV screen, and they are available in different sizes to match the width of... read more

Cutting the Cord, Part I: Best Streaming Services

By Eric Podolsky, 8/13/12   In today’s rapidly changing world of home entertainment, more and more people are choosing to cancel their costly cable and satellite subscriptions and replace them with streaming services. And while this move away from broadcast television has its pros (less expensive, no commercials, on-demand content) and cons (no news or live sports), if you choose to go ahead and cut the cord for good, deciding which services to subscribe to can be a daunting task. Each offers its own set of content, and though there are plenty of overlaps... read more

The Best of the “Worst Install Mistake” Contest

Back in June, we ran a contest where we asked AVS members to share their worst home theater installation mistakes ever for a chance to win an Epson projector. The responses we got were both hilarious and heartbreaking, often simultaneously. There were tales of smashed plasmas, fried, smoking electronics, electrocution, pets and children causing destruction, and of course, lots of faulty wiring.   This “EPIC FAIL” thread was one for the records, and we thought it too good to slip quietly into the archives without highlighting some of the best/worst stories... read more

We received many inspiring submissions from AVS members when we asked you to share your most meaningful home theater moment of all time with us.
