I have experienced (4) reboots and (1) lockup since December 24th. Location is Maryland, getting TVGOS from either WJZ Baltimore or WUSA DC (I pull in both, and have no zip code entered, so unsure of the source of the guide info).

I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I have my zip code set to my Milwaukee zip. I am receiving TV Guide data, which I'm assuming is from WDJT, our CBS affiliate.

I have experienced 11 reboots since December 24th. No lockups, but my screen does go black before the machine reboots.

Rebooting has occurred both before and after upgrading the firmware.

I live north of Dallas. I have my real zip code entered into the unit. TVGOS icon is visible in the guide screen. Signal strength on all channels is >85-90.

I've experienced multiple lock-ups & re-boots. Began a couple of days after originally turning the unit on. However, recently the lock-ups have not occurred; only re-boots. Re-boots begin occurring ~3-4 hours after turning the unit on each time.

I vote yes - - - But I have been very happy with my unit

I got my unit for Christmas and did have some initial reboots and lockups but after doing a factory reset and disabling updates I have had only two and I think I know why for at least one of them.

The one lockup, I was recording the Orange Bowl plus another channel - - when I tried to change the channels and the screen froze because both tuners were in use. The next morning screen was still froze and I had to unplug to reset the unit. The recording said I had only got 1 hour and 27 minutes of the bowl game but when I watched it I had the entire game. (Thus even when the screen locks sometimes it continues to record)

I also upgraded the harddrive to a 500GB drive and that went very well and I'm glad I did it. The unit has had no lockups or reboots since changing the harddrive.

Lastly, I'm very, very happy with my DTVPAL DVR and would still recommend it to friends and family who only have OTA. BTW, I do get TVGOS and I'm about 55 miles from DC and 72 miles from Baltimore and I have my real zipcode entered in the unit.

I have had no reboots or lockups. (Did have two skipped recordings Tuesday night, but a third worked ok. ) Location is southern York County.

I'm getting my TVGOS from WJZ Baltimore with zip code set to 21207 (I don't currently receive WHP Harrisburg and they're not reported as having TVGOS anyway). All 7 Baltimore channels have 7 day guide data, but 3 of 7 Harrisburg channels do not (WGAL-NBC, WGCB-IND, WHTM-ABC - WHTM not received, though strangely WHP-CBS does have 7 days).

(F202, Updates enabled for 1am, no Ethernet connected, did not reset to Factory defaults at anytime.)

received my unit and power cycle count was at 2 (makes sense....testing and me turning it on). I reset that when it arrived.

3 weeks later and 0 power cycle count and zero issues.

(Austin, TX KEYE-TV for TVGOS data)

At no point in your rambling, incoherent post were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having read it.

I live in the Milwaukee area (western Waukesha county) and get TVGOS from WDJT also, but have not had a single reboot or lockup. I've recorded about 30 hours of programming so far, some of it using both tuners at once. But I have only watched a recorded show while also recording only once. Upgraded firmware during initial setup on Dec 24th.

3 reboots so far since Dec 25, all 3 while watching previously recorded material. No reboots while recording, no lockups.

Northern VA area, TVGOS from WUSA-CBS ch 9. I do have some video/audio dropouts receiving this channel, even though the strength is 88-90. I have ordered a powered splitter which I will be trying next week.

Edit: 1st lockup Jan 9, while watching recorded program and pressing the skip button. Had to power cycle the unit.

No problems at all till last night (posted details here).
Short version...only one lockup.

I received it Dec 17. It has shut down and restarted every day. It also freezes up every day. I have to unplug it from the power source.

The company emailed me a prepaid return label. I sent it back today. They said they will send me a new one. Customer service has been helpful. The machine is great, except for these problems.

I finally decided last week that I didn't care about the potential for lock ups/reboots, so I enabled updates, connected ethernet, and haven't taken any special measures to prevent these problems and I can report that the problems are now worse than ever. Guess I'll go back to troubleshooting and try to eliminate variables in order to reduce the problems that I'm having...

I'm in the west in Phoenix, AZ. My machine averages about three hours between reboots. Half the time it reboots on its own and the rest of the time I have to unplug it, wait a while and plug it in again. Once I had to wait 16 hours.

The person that didn't have reboot problems, but had recording problems is probably having the unit reboot on its own during recording. If the unit records two or more sections for one show, it's probably rebooting on its own.

My unit dies during viewing and during recording. I guess units that lock up, reboot on their own or units that die are all having similar problems.

My guide only shows about 6-12 hours of information. Anyone else having the same problem.

That probably means you're not getting TVGOS data. If you don't see the logo in the guide, you're only getting PSIP data which can go out longer, but most stations don't go beyond about 12 hours.

I got my unit two days ago... Setup was a breeze and I was very excited about the unit when I started to use it. Then it restarted... Not once... but 5 times in 3 hours, and locked up completely while I was recording my first show on it. I left it alone until the show was over, hoping that it would still record even though there was no output, but after unplugging and starting up again, I only got half of my show. So 5 Restarts and 1 Lockup on day one (within 3 hours) and 4 Restarts 1 Lockup on day two (within 3 hours as well)... Anyone have any suggestions?

Also we should be able to either re-vote or vote again as I have two units one worked great for almost three weeks so I voted no issue then I had a reboot and now I got my secondary unit and it locked up the second day of use.

Location NW Fort Worth, TX, real Zip and Dallas area Zips have been entered TVGOS displayed, no info past 12 hrs on major 3 networks, CBS, NBC, WFAA, sometimes FOX.
multiple reboots and lock-ups as delivered with F201 software and still does after with F202 software.
I cannot see any patterns as to why or when it does it, recording, playing, live or not, but does it each day, in the evenings (not at home during day and unit turned off)

Tech support say "we have not had any reports of reboots or lock-ups and until we have more information we will not replace or offer any repair to your unit."

I had mine delivered Monday 19th Jan 2009, warranty expires 90 days after activation, which they say was before my unit was even delivered.

We need to collectively "rattle their cage" to get them to figure this out and to offer extended warranty coverage for problematic units.

I will paste this thread to their tech dept, who have still not replied to my e-mail.

If the unit worked it would be brilliant, but at present the customer service and the unit sucks.

I received my DTVPal DVR week before last and I've had it installed since last Saturday (1/18/09). I've experienced random reboots since I got it hooked up but they are getting more frequent. Yesterday (Sunday 1/25/09) I had 8 reboots in a 4 hour period with an additional HD error that stated that the unit needed to be unplugged for 15 seconds.

The reboots occurred at roughly 30 minute intervals while watching TV. One occurred while watching TV and recording another show and another while watching delayed TV (loosing the delay during the reboot).

I updated the SW during the initial setup. The reboots have occurred while I have had the automatic updates enabled and disabled (currently disabled). I do receive the TVGOS signal and have put in my true zip (Denver Metro) but have not set up the DTVPal to pass the signal along to other devices.

I am connected via the Component Video connection.

I have emailed Tech@echostar.com but am not holding out much hope for a quick response.

Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Likewise - mine took about a week before it started to get very unstable. It took me a long time to finish watching this week's CSI (recorded) because the unit was rebooting every 3-5 minutes . . .

Version 201
Component video, no ethernet
Update timer off, TVGOS data well populated
High signal strength for local CBS-DT

Just got the unit one week ago.

I was shocked to find the software was still version 1, so upgraded in the first 24 hours, to version 2.

I am in LA area, with rooftop antenna, and get loads of stations with signal strength in the high 90s or 100. Also many stations in the 60-80% range which seem to work fine.

The program guide works great around here. Though the display of the information on the dvr is spotty. Several times I have gone from live tv to guide, and seen large areas saying "no information", when they used to be fully populated. Clicking out of guide and back again corrects this problem. Looks like software....

I am using only the composite video and stereo output RCA jacks. No HD connected.

I already had more than one reboot. Several while recording unattended. One while I was watching.

I had set it to record a laker's game. Then started watching the recording after it was 30-40 minutes in.

As I was watching, it suddenly went away, and came up with the reboot screen.

Last weekend, I had it set to record another lakers game - 2.5 hours worth. I was gone all weekend. When I returned, the unit was locked up, with both the green led and red led lit up on the front, but no response to the remote. I had to remove the power cord to get any activity.

When it came back, there was no sign of the program it was supposed to record.

I just realized that the echostar receiver card does not appear to do anything, so am leaving it out.

Has anyone had a lockup/reboot with the echostar card removed? Could this be the problem?

Don

Removing the card doesn't make a difference. The current software does not use the card.

Receiver R1880054358-79
Firmware F202TALD-N
Boot strap 1011TALD
Processor ID 29450045

I am having multiple reboots. usually when watching recorded shows.

It sometimes appears that the reboots happen when another scheduled recording is firing but not always.

I have reset to the factory defaults. Turned off standby (just in case it is contributing). I also turned off early (1 min) and late recording settings (2min). We will see if any of this helps.

I think the issue is with firmware and it will take an updated firmware (F203?) before the device can successfully handle the two tuners without glitches.

What? no options in the poll for Canada?
My first reboot happened soon after I set my first timer and before it had executed. I was watching live tv at the moment. I have owned for 1 week and have had 3 reboots and one lockup.

Sealed L version with 201 software. It's plugged into a Monster line conditioner which is plugged into a 1400 watt apc smart ups . 60 miles away from most stations with most stations showing 93-100 percent signal using 2 antennas into two 7777 preamps
. Not networked yet. Update options off and also told it not to power down since it only consumes 26 watts when it is on and 24 watts when off. Zip set to all zeros.
I noticed New stations are starting to come online this last week, so rescan often and you may be surprised. Even found a Canadian one.

Please disregard my "No, I live in the Midwest" vote, replace with "Yes, I live in the Midwest". Mine rebooted for the first two times that I've noticed this past week. I still really like it though.

I live in Midwest, and had 2 lockups since Christmas. Other than that, it has worked well, and very glad I bought it. My wife loves it too.The tuner is excellent, much better than those of 2 years ago( my Olevia). It's great to be able to skip all commercials and record in HD.
