I have an HD PVR hooked up via component to my Sony KDS-55A2020. HD content looks great, the PVR sends it over at 1080i. SD content is obviously worse (HDPVR sends it at 480i) but I'm wondering if there is any advantage to sending the component signal through my Onkyo TX-SR674 and letting it scale it to 1080i before sending it to the TV. Does anyone know if the Onkyo is better than the TV at upscaling? Thanks.

You don't have a choice. The 674 does NOT scale. It transcodes, which does not alter the resolution (although it may alter pq due to signal degradation). It takes an analog signal and sends it over HDMI as is.

Upconvert is the same as transcode.

What you are referring to is Upscaling, which the 674 does not offer. An example receiver would be the Onkyo 875.

Well that solves that then, thanks :)
