I just installed 2 Lutron light dimmers in my HT. Problem is they are on separate walls. I have recently also moved all my HT gear to the rear of the HT too. I have a Harmony 880 that I use to control everything. Is there an IR repeater or something that I could put in the front of the HT (by the main screen) that would take the IR commands sent from the Harmony 880 and repeat them and send them out to the HT gear in the rear of the room and to both Lutron light dimmers? Thanks.

Any suggestions at all?

I got such a system from Radio Shack for my son. Last I heard it was working OK.

I use the Terk Leapfrog IR extender for similar purposes. It works. Could work better, but then again it was only 25 bucks.

Does it need to be an IR system or RF system>?

I'm not real familiar with the 880, does it support RF? To answer your question in short, yes. There are several ways to accomplish what you need. If the 880 does support RF there is probably a base station you could buy with IR emitters. Many other remotes offer this type of add-on. If it does not support RF you will need to an IR receiver/repeater

I have used the MX-900 and the MRF-300 base station to control Lutron dimmers in other rooms. You should be able to do the same with the Harmony 890 and an IR base station but the 880 doesn't support RF. You'll need a IR repeater instead. HOT LINK PRO REPEATER (http://www.surfremotecontrol.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=HLPro) You'll need to run IR flashers to the dimmer if they are farther away then you'll need to make or buy extension wires. Also the flasher looks unsightly stuck on the front of the dimmer panel. I ended up taking the faceplate off and cutting a section of the metal box away so I could hide the flasher behind the dimmer panel.

I have the same one. No issues.

Wow, thanks for all the info. Where was the Terk Leapfrog purchased at?

Am I right in thinking that all I need to do is have the IR repeater/receiver in the front of the room and it will repeat the IR commands from the Harmony 880? Does anything need to be run from the repeater/receiver to anything else?

I got mine at Circuit City.

You have an IR receiver at the front of the room, and the IR repeater in front of your components. It's a 2 piece system. Super easy setup.

Do I have to run wires or anything from the repeater and the receiver?

Nope, they just need a place to plug in power.

jcavner, I saw the Terk you mentioned on the CircuitCity website. It looks like 2 pyramid-shaped devices. I take it one of them is placed in the front of the room and "grabs" the IR commands from the Harmony 880 and repeats them out. But where and what does the other one do? What is the purpose of the other device? Thanks.

One pyramid (where you are pointing the remote) receives the signal and then sends it to the other pyramid (placed in front of your equipment). They have antenna on the back of them so they can communicate over long distances, through walls, etc.
