Good stuff. :) Starts slow but funny.
Its even better if you think its not a parody when you first see it.
Icemage 02-27-08, 03:42 AM It's pretty funny. The only thing that got on my nerves was the canned laugh track (but that always gets on my nerves no matter where it's used).
Not a M*A*S*H* fan then? :p
I liked the spot. As a former HD DVD supporter, its so funny it hurts.
Maybe I should send it to everyone that bought a HD DVD after I had a format war discussion with them. :o
Loved the fact he's so clueless that he is doesn't know of the Toshiba decision but the writers added it into the sketch so everyone gets the joke.
And the clothing and desk items in the flashback scenes. :D
hAPPY1977 02-27-08, 04:51 AM Nice sarcastic video.
Didn't see it as sarcastic as much as a humorous parody or bit of satire poking fun of anyone making tech predictions and making recommendations to others. Besides being uninformed of current developments.
In my situation, personally, I liked being able to smile at the situation. ;)
Not a canned laugh track - This Hour Has 22 Minutes is recorded in front of a studio audience. Computer Corner is a regular feature - if you go back to Feb. 19 he explains how to vlog using your "VHS or Betamax camcorder" and on Feb. 5 he explains LOL, which stands for "Loads of Laughter"

Is this like a weekly Canadian SNL?
Closer to the Weekend Update segment than SNL as a whole. It's one of three prime-time political sketch comedy shows, and, ironically, the only one that isn't HD.
sivartk 02-27-08, 07:18 PM The guy really ages well....20+ years ago and still looks the same today ;)

It must been a teen thing as i found it not funny.

Hmm, I'm about triple the age of a young teen, and over double that of an old teen, and I found it funny (though not the funniest episode by far). But I've watched a lot of 22 Minutes in my life before moving to Florida. The Computer Corner is usually about how clueless Gunther is about the latest technology, and he represents the common-consumer stereotypes well. Like a lot of 22 Minutes skits, the sarcasm is layered on so think you might not actually see the humor right away.
But that's MHO, and YMMV (and obviously does, so no harm!)

Ah ha, thanks for the explanation.
Alot of us who visit the forum are not from the USA and thus had no idea this is some well known figure (sorry still don't find it funny though).
moviegeek 02-27-08, 09:38 PM I thought it was funny and I'm not even a Canadian.:p
