View Full Version : Hitachi 51f59a screen color issue.
Hey guys. I purchased the 51f59a about 13 months ago. Just long enough to be out of the warranty. I fell asleep with the sleep timer on as usual. I wake up. I turn on the television, I notice a red tint over the TV with spherical lines. I turn it off and back on, and its still there. So, I go to the Magic Focus feature and click. Now the red color goes away when the blue and green parts go on, but it now does not show the red section.
Now I know something is wrong, but I want to know what exactly it is. Has anyone heard of this? The red light must work because the color on the screen is completely red tinted. Is it misaligned? Does anyone know if there is something that can be done?
Thanks alot.

Perhaps a convergence IC is failing? Kinda soon for it to happen, but not impossible. W/o pictures, it's too hard to say.
Can you post pics of this? Would also recommend posting this in the "Don't Dump Your CRT RPTV" thread or one of the more visited F59-centric threads here. More likely to get a prompt & educated answer there.
Either way, a visit from a Hitachi certified tech is likely in your future. Not cheap out of warranty, but cheaper than a new TV!
Good luck!
Here's 3 pics. The red lines are actually part of the problem. None of these are altered, and the pics look pretty accurate. The white vertical line in some pics is glare.
jwebb1970 02-28-08, 04:54 PM NOT a convergence issue, for sure!
Not sure, but have seen this thing before on other TVs.
Could be a pwr supply issue? I'm no tech.
But Mr Bob (Robert Jones) is. I suggest posting your pics (or a link to your post/thread) over on this thread:

The "original" Hitachi F59 thread, and/or this one:

Bob's "Don't Dump Your CRT RPTV" thread. Bob is one of AVS's regular contributers that happens to be a very experienced repair tech/ISF calibrator whose specialty is CRT RPTV & FP tech.
He may be able to at least tell you WHAT is wrong by looking at those pics. He visits/posts most CRT threads here daily.
Being out of warranty, a repair will surely cost you. However, being that your 12 mo warrantly recently expired (a month ago), you may want to call Hitachi. Since the trouble popped up so soon, they MIGHT be willing to do it under warranty. No promises, but it's worth a shot.

It just happened randomly. I know I didn't adjust anything. Is there some way I can go about fixing this without a technician?
Lee Bailey 02-29-08, 06:58 AM Not that I know of. If nothing was touched by you, then something obviously is broken.
OK so how much do you think it would cost to get fixed?

I actually was going to call them, and never go around to it. Then my Fiance called on Saturday, and they are going to pay for full repairs to the television. I'm very relieved. I thought I was going to have to drop some more money again.
