the barco 1209 and 808 I listened to were the quietest machines I ever heard. I would be surprised if there was anything you could do without compromising the machines cooling ability.
Keep in mind that even though a lot of people swap in HTPC super quiet fans they don't move anywhere near as much air as their specs. They are rated free flowing where a CRT chassis normally present's a load.

Got an 808 and the fans themselves are pretty quite.
So I believe it's the vibrations and/or the airflow itself that cause the noise.
Maybe someone has tried to dampen the vibrations ?

Do you think Greg has a mod or do you know?
I've been looking for a mod for some time now! (Years)

If you think it is from vibration, try these:

Turbulence noise is another issue, and the only things I have tried are slowing down the fans and making room for better airflow. (sony 12xx)

Most Barco's (1209 included) speed control the fans. So you can't just slow them down as they'll just spin faster to compensate. I really REALLY don't recommend doing anything that'll run the chassis any hotter. Instead, hushbox it with a forced air system.

I went through all sorts of fan mod with my Barco Cine 8 Onyx and the temp rise just isn't worth it and the results were not really any drop in sound anyway. I used multiple temp probes to measure the before/after in multiple locations.

I detailed my hushbox info here with pictures and other thoughts: http://www.curtpalme.com/Hushbox1.shtm

I think one of the most common problems with barco fan noise is a lot of people keep the covers open.

Its very important when running your barco to keep the covers closed. By leaving the covers open you can actually Blow out your boards. They overheat very quickly.

The fans will kick up into high gear as well.

The 909 is very noisy but the 1209 is very quiet.

That being said most " Quiet Fan" companies are cheap and just use a resistor in series with the fans power. Then they charge you a large amount of money.

Most of the Barco Fan mods are very simple dont replace the fans.

Simply cut the RED or Black wire to the fan Put a 3-5W 10-20 ohm resistor in series with the fan.

10 ohms will be more air but a little noisier

20 less air quieter

So I say start at 10 ohm and move up if still to nosey or if you have a very hot room or a hush box keep it at 10 ohms.

I=V/R

So if you take the amps of the fans I

OR the Watts I*V

You can see the reduction of voltage. From my testing 8 V was fine vs 12 V

Dont go over 22 ohms because the air flow from my testing is too low.

I hope that helps

That being said most " Quiet Fan" companies are cheap and just use a resistor in series with the fans power. Then they charge you a large amount of money.Or they just completely lie about their airflow specs. SilenX fans is a good example. Their fans do not move anywhere near the volume of air that they say they do. I tried them on my Cine 8 but it wasn't worth the extra heat/risk.

Well vented hushboxes (IMHO) are still the best way to go if you can.
