Thanks to all for the great information in the SIM2 posts! Living vicariously for now, I ordered the C3X 1080 T3 lens configuration which should arrive in April. Since the unit is not yet available I basically extrapolated the information generously provided to make a decision on projector and screen.

The current plan is:
Stewart CineCurve 128" Acoustically Transparent
Isco III, w/ CineSlide
28'-29' Throw Distance through an Optical Port
C3X mounted in a hush box outside of the theater
16' Primary Viewing Distance

Before finalizing the screen order I am having second thoughts about not ordering the HT5000. The C3X will suffer diminished light from the Isco, the port glass, and the AT screen--although still brighter than the Sony G90 CRT it's replacing. If I order the HT5000 I can spec an 11.5' CineCurve screen btwn the speakers, but I remember Art posting that there are better projectors for the money to light up a smaller screen.

I have heard that the HT5000 lamp is adjustable from the menu so one has total control over brightness--is this correct? If so, is color rendering relatively uniform over the adjustment? I understand that the unit has SOTA lenses and is more dynamic with better pixel alignment due to its full size light engine. Since I order this stuff sight unseen, any feedback would be appreciated on the desirability of the HT5000 for this small screen configuration. I realize the dollars are materially different--and I am still looking at the value proposition, but the "WOW" is the Grail. [Art, with all due respect I am thinking of that Serenity Shot :)]

Clay

we are all living vicariusly through you not vice versa.

In your set up go for the gusto and get the HT 5000 but wait until it is available with the DC4

But that may be some distance away, who knows how long? Does he wanna wait?

At what point in the throw range will you be mounting. GetGray (Scott Horton, Cineslide manufacturer) tested my C3X 1080 and found that loss of light output with my T2 lens was linear, with my T2 throw range 1.75 to 2.4, he helped me decide to mount at 16' 4" or a throw range of 2.03 (based on 16:9 screen width of 127", same as yours). My understanding - but check with the experts here - is that assuming the upcoming T3 lens is the same quality as the T2 (oh - we can't assume anything, can we?) so that as you zoom light loss is linear, then if you mount a bit more towards half of the throw range like I did that you should be ok with the C3X 1080. I am assuming a 1.3 gain screen like I am getting.

I would say that the "distance away" is probably from Louisiana to Art's home theater
