I have a Sony Grand Wega KDF-55WF655 LCD Projection HDTV+Direct tv HD Tivo PVR+ Direct TV sat box. My HD Tivo PVR leds display 1080p and the TV is 1080p.
Does the HD PVR do the scaling to 1080p and/or at the HDTV or both?
Is this the best picture I can get or will a scaler make any significant improvement?
I don't mind spending the money if I would be able to see the difference. I read the forums but I don't really see an answer to this type of question. There seems to be some pretty sharp video guys on this site so I thought maybe one of you all could enlighten this old man. Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

An HD Tivo can output 1080p? Hmmm... Since there's no source material for it past 1080i, that surprises me. Not doubting you. Just something I didn't know.
I'm in sort of the same boat as you even though I've been at this for a long time. I just bought a VP50 just for the hell of it to try it and see if I can discern a difference. I have most of the same sources as you and then some so I'm interested in seeing if it's really worth it.
I went ahead and got a VP30 for the plasma in the bedroom too. What the heck! In for a penny, in for a pound. :D

You are correct the output on the Direct TV Tivo PVR is 1080i not p, my mistake. Since the native resolution on the Sony HDTV is 720p, I am really seeing 720 not 1080? If so, should my PVR be set at 720? If I purchase a video processor like the vp30 or 50 will my HDTV dispay 1080p? I assume it will not because it is a few pixels short, correct? What are my best choices to improve my picture? Buy a true 1080p HDTV? Any advice would be greatly appreciated because obviously I am a neophyte here.
