I got my first Mac today, a Mini. I thought there would be a lot of video players available for the Mac but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Is there a player that can do infinitely variable zoom in full screen mode?

OSX does variable zoom so the player doesn't have to. OK, not infinite but close enough.

It does that if the player is in full screen mode? How do I activate it?

It does that if the player is in any mode. But why use fullscreen? Just zoom up. Read about Preferences->Universal Access->Zoom.

I want full screen mode because when watching a video I don't want to see the gui. When in full screen I want to zoom out so that there is a black border around the video. I tried the OS X zoom and it only zooms in and not out.

Sync, Increase your min zoom setting and you might be able to find a setting that will allow you reduce the zoom to the level to get your desired effect. The pref panel is defaulted to minimize the zoom back to original screen setting.

I tried this and did get the size I want. But I don't think this feature is designed with scaling video in mind. It doesn't look very good. It is also a nuisance when you exit the player because the zoom happens on the system level and is still in effect.
