Hello All,

I currently have a Sony SXRD 70 tv on a Salamander Synergy triple stand (sorry the forum managers would'nt allow me to post a link to the Salamander site). Would like to put a 10" riser shelf on this stand to accommodate a center channel that I have in mind. Do you all think this will be okay to do? Will it raise the Sony too high off the ground for best viewing? I sit about 15' from the set while watching. I saw in some older posts that others have done this with sets <= 60"...Thanks for any help.

Looks like the Salamander is 19 3/4" tall and the riser is 10" tall. So we are talking a overall stand height of around 30".

Regards,
Mark

P.S. I know I should have bought the Salamander stand with the big center
shelf. Hindsight is always 2020.

It sounds to me like you have the Salamander Synergy Triple 20 (link) (http://salamanderdesigns.com/syn/synergy.jsp?modelbase=sl20).

Viewing angles on RPTV's have limits. IMHO, the best height for a RPTV puts your eye level centered somewhere between 1/3 from the top of the screen and 1/3 from the bottom of the screen. The height of your current stand would already place eye level near the bottom of the screen for most typical seating positions, and raising it another 10" would likely put eye level below the bottom of the screen in most rooms. Not ideal.

I know the 70" is hard to move around, but I'd recommend somehow trying it 10" higher to see if the height bothers you before going to the trouble or expense of making or buying a riser.

Just my 2¢

Hi Kelpie, Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that that's what the answer was going to be. Might just have to stick with a <19.5" widecenter channel speaker so it fits into the center bay of the stand without going to a riser. If you have any suggestions on a good center channel speaker, I'm open to suggestions...My local dealer is recommending the Definitive 2300 center channel.

Mark

Sorry, I'm not the best person to ask about speakers. You might try the speaker forum (link) (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=89) here on AVS for some good center channel advice.

Good luck!

Hey Mark,

You could always try something like this.

It really depends on how much gear you have though. This might be something you can consider.

It is just a tripple 10 with a 10 inch riser. I sit about 11 feet away from screen, and really wouldn't want the screen to be much higher.

To accomplish this, you can probably use a bunch of the material that you already have. Just buy smaller posts, doors, and well you get the idea. Whatever you do, it has to be cheaper than buying a whole new system.
