View Full Version : Anyone here using Their XBOX360 with a Vizio VX37L?
I'm going to set my 12 year old grandson up with a XBOX360 and a HDTV.I think the Vizio VX37L is a good TV for the price but wondering if the 8ms response time will be too slow or if it will be OK. This setup will be in my home as a second HDTV and will be used by my grandson for gaming and by me for HDTV. Thanks for any replies. :)
fjtorres 02-28-08, 03:13 PM I don't have the Vizio but a relative does.
His XBOX looked just fine on it.
No issues observed.
If you like the way video looks on it, everything else should follow suit.
Just let your eyeballs be the judge. :-)
And remember, any 12 year old getting a 360 and an HDTV should consider himself very lucky unless he's in dire need of discipline. ;-)
bkchurch 02-28-08, 03:24 PM Before I got my Sharp Aqous I had a Vizio VX37L and I can promise you once properly calibrated it will look fantastic. There's hardly any noticeable blur as well, the VX37Ls have a 6ms response time now and have been like that for about a year so you'll be fine.
RafaelSmith 02-28-08, 03:42 PM I have a Vizio 47" LCD....my 360 hooked up to it via VGA @ 1920x1080 resolution looks amazing. Took some calibrating but it looks damn nice. To me it looks even better than the PS3 i have hooked up to it via HDMI.
It is also 8ms...and I have never ever noticed anything negative.
I would imagine the 37" would be good.
Vizio TV's are really good for their price. After a little tweaking/calibrating mine looks as good or better than others ive seen costing $1000.00 more.
joshuavern 02-28-08, 03:53 PM I used to own the 37" Vizio, and did a lot of Xbox 360 gaming on it as well. The picture looked pretty sharp when connected via the VGA cable, in fact it made for a decent DVD player on that TV.
FIVE ONE SIX 02-28-08, 08:05 PM i use the Vizio VX32L, which is the 32" version of the tv that you're talking about, and it's great. just make sure you dial in the picture though, out of the box it's very bright, but once you dial it in it's very nice for the price...
if you want some advice on picture settings, PM me...
HeadRusch 02-28-08, 11:05 PM Anyone know who makes the panels that Vizio uses in their TV's?
formulanerd 02-28-08, 11:29 PM mostly LPL, but some CMO/sammy panels as well.
beezdeez 02-29-08, 12:12 AM I have this setup. It looks fantastic. Make sure you calibrate it.
Lucky 12 year old.
CaCHooKa Man 02-29-08, 02:09 AM i have the vx32l and once you tweak the settings its great
TakeYourMoney 02-29-08, 05:30 PM I had the VX37L for about two months before i returned it back to costco (have to love the no questions asked 3 month return policy) and upgraded to VU42LF. It was my first HDTV I've ever had and i absolutely loved it for the price i paid. I had my xbox connected via component (and VGA for a short while) and the picture looked great. I had no lag what so ever. Couldn't ask for anything more. Just keep in mind that if you use component cables the xbox won't upconvert normal dvd's to a higher resolution, you'll be stuck watching at 480p, but i don't think this concerns you since you are buying a new xbox which will have HDMI connectivity. But besides that, the Vizio + Xbox360 work extremely well together.

Uh, thats a little inaccurate: When connected via component the Xbox itself wont be able to upconvert (aka: Scale) the signal, that will be left to the TV...so if thats a 720p set, your DVD would be displayed at 720p, or at 1080p if thats a 1080 set. If the TV were actually displaying 720x480, the image you'd see would have black bars on all 4 sides and take up a smaller portion of the screen). All digital TV's scale (well, non-crt's anyhow), its just that most of them dont do a very good job of it, which is why upconverting players with their special scaling chips are still preferred.
ogbuehi 02-29-08, 05:50 PM I think at the age of 12 he won't really notice or care how much worse or better the tv looks compared to an XBR4 or Kuro or whether how good it will look after being calibrated. That setup is just fine for him and he will thoroughly enjoy the display as long as the 360 has the games he wants.
ALaz502 03-23-08, 05:53 PM I'd like to put in my .02 as well. The VGA cable + the Vizio vx37l = the best. You get PERFECT pixel mapping when you use the VGA cable. I noticed that there are a LOT less jaggies and inperfections when I got the VGA hooked up as opposed to the component or hdmi even.

are you sure about that? i'm only asking because i tried the MS VGA cable with my vx32l, and it stretched the horizontal part of the image across the entire screen, and didn't show the 3 rows of black pixles on both sides of the screen that it would have if it showed it in 1:1. and there was no way to change the ratio to 1:1, there was only wide and zoom, and wide always stretched the horizontal part of the image to fill the screen...
i'm just curious to see if the 32" and 37" are different, other than the screen size, because someone else that has the 37" said the HDMI input had the option to 1:1 the image, while my 32" doesn't and it overscans the image between 2 and 3 percent...
