I have imported couple of tapes from DV camcorder to MAC, when I started to burn DVDs from mac its taking > 5 hrs for recording a 1.5 hrs video,

I've noticed a dedicated dvd recorder (panasonic or such available for 100$) will do it near real time, but does not provide editing.

Is there a way to output DV out from IMovieHD to a DVD recorder.

Thanks in advance
Koti

Yes, I have exported DV video from iMovie HD via Firewire to my Pioneer DVD recorder. I don't know if the same works with other brands. It's as simple as playing your edited movie from the timeline. Don't use the Share to camera mode. My Pioneer recorder has a DV input setting that is separate from its special screens for importing from a DV camcorder. I need to use the DV input and not the camcorder input screen.

The video source must be the same specs as what is created by a DV camcorder. You may also use SimpleVideoOutX to play the video via Firewire to the DVD recorder.

Alternatively you could get a LaCie FastCoder. It isn't sold new any more but you probably can find a used one. It is a Firewire-connected hardware MPEG encoder that encodes in real time and writes the MPEG files to your hard drive. You then can use the resulting MPEG 2 file in Toast, Popcorn, CaptyDVD 2 or DVD Studio Pro to author your DVD.
