just picked up a Sony 60" KDS60a2000 HDTV from Circuit City which was discounted at "open box."

great deal, FANTASTIC tv, but i just noticed there is some discoloration on one side of the screen.

for example, when i play Lost Odyssey (360) and am in the ice mountains (where everything SHOULD be white) the far right of the screen is plagued by a yellowish/off-white coloration.

the resolution is still crystal clear, but the color is off.

ALSO, i tried TURNING THE COLOR ALL THE WAY DOWN (where everything SHOULD be black & white) and still, the right side, was an off-white color.

since it's rear projected, is this normal? is the bulb nearing replacement? is this "burn-in" from previous use? is burn-in curable?

i still have a 1-year manufacturing warranty, but do they fix such issues?

thanks.

also, does anyone have any repair/customer service experience from Sony? i really hate to send off my tv seeing as how i just got it, but i don't want to end up paying for a bigger problem later.

btw, sorry if i'm not posting correctly--i'm new here and while i read every sticky thread regarding newbies, i'm not sure...

This is not normal, colours should be very uniform across the screen.

Would expect the optical block (aka light engine) will need replacing but from what I've seen in the a20x0 owners threads, it's iffy whether the new ob will be better or worse.

Mine is showing the same symptoms (top right corner goes quite green after a bit), just past factory warranty so I am starting the process through the extended warranty as of yesterday.

Hope it fixes the problem because I refuse to replace this otherwise gorgeous set with an lcd (blacks still not that great) or a plasma (waaay too much money for the same size / pq).

Good Luck and Welcome to AVS :)

thanks for the help, and i JUST saw the owner thread for this model after i posted this.

does the 1yr manufacturer warranty replace the bulb by any chance? i just bought the tv and although open box, it's supposed to come with all the perks of a new set.

any word on how long the process of getting a television set fixed takes? the set is absolutely gorgeous and it sucks that i can't fully enjoy it right now.

i THINK (if i'm checking correctly) that the bulb hour usage is at 6,000, which is high; could this be the problem? or does it sound more like another problem?

this truly stinks either way, but the tv was extremely cheap.

Don't think the factory warranty covers bulbs on the a2000, may be wrong on that though.

Saw what you paid on the other thread.....wow, had mine for about 14 months now......could have got 3 of em AND a bluray player for what I paid then

Not bitter though...have enjoyed this set greatly, no regrets :)

ha. yeah it was a really good deal.
i looked at circuit city's website and linked through to the warranty and saw that bulb replacement IS a part of the deal (if i'm reading correctly, which i think i am).

i called and they said i need to schedule an appointment with the local repair center, etc., and sounded pretty assured that the problem would be fixed to boot. i can only hope...

do you think that possibly since the tv supposedly has ALL the benefits associated with a sealed set i might receive a newer model if the repairs don't fix the problem? i heard someone say that Sony has a 3-service-->replacement policy. wonder if that applies to open box sales?
