My Oppo 981 has developed a strange problem.
It no longer plays audio on DVD-RW discs.
It was fine till today. I recorded some edited home movies on a Verbatim DVD RW disk several months ago which I had played with no problems many times but today the no audio problem developed. I tried the same DVD+RW disc on my PC and it played fine. Other dvds I had made played fine .
I re-recorded the home video on another blank DVD+RW disk and that disk too produced no audio on the 981, but worked fine on my PC.

I then made a DVD-R recording of the same home video and it played fine on the Oppo.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what the problem might be???

That's an odd one. I can only suggest contacting Oppo support.

I use "PHILIPS/041 (Philips DVD+RW)" from time to time on the 981 and have had no problems.

Your +RW and -R discs are made from identical images? You're not somehow introducing a different audio track? I only mention this because software players are more generous in the audio track types they will play, as compared to standalone players.
