Where I'm at, there are no calibration guys around for miles and miles......and many more miles. Your room color, source and screen gain may color the calibration to some degree but I think its a good idea. You will know the projector at least meets a reference out of the box and the calibration will also insure QC is up to par. You do not want to get home and fire up the projector for the first and find its defective. Opinions may vary:) Steve Bruzonsky 03-01-08, 02:53 PM Alan, folks have been saying that the C3X 1080, as factory calibrated, is not much off from true D6500 at the D65 setting!!!! So an off site calibration may not provide much benefit with this projector. Of course, I'm watching with my C3X 1080 on my black wall until my screen goes up Tuesday. But GetGray had my projecor for a bit, testing things for me, and felt the D65 setting was pretty good!!! Pete 03-01-08, 03:40 PM My calibrator confirmed that factory default + the HD and D65 settings were very close. He was able to make some minor gray scale adjustments that improved detail in dark scenes. Alan Gouger 03-01-08, 04:38 PM Im not doubting the factory calibration but because he is buying in the states and bringing to another country I think its a good idea to have someone familiar with what the image should look like go through the machine so he feels confident he has a good one when he takes it out of the box back home. QC issues are at a very % but if something fell through the cracks its cheaper to deal with them here. Alan, good points and of course I fully agree with you. mark haflich 03-03-08, 05:09 PM I would play it for some hours BUT, these units are burned in at Miramar for at least 24 hours to avoid having an early mode failure. It is pre-calibrasted on a 1.0 gain matt white for 6500K. I think paying for a calibration would be a waste of money but checking it out to ensure no shipping damage when the unit was shipped from Miramar to you dealer should be something you should do. javry 03-04-08, 12:58 PM Great points guys.
