I installed Perian and am getting significant macro blocking and pauses in video playback using QT and FR. The files are avc encoded in a mkv container. They play back fine on my PC.

This is 720p video.

use VLC, should solve your problem.

Or OSXBMC.

VLC doesn't have the features I want.

XBMC is really close to meeting my needs. I'll be keeping an eye on it.

It looks like I'll be sticking with Windows to do home theater for now.
