I'm very new to Cameras in general and I want to start recording and editing my own video.

I'm desperately looking for a good HD digital video camera, but I have no clue where to start when looking. I was wondering if you guys could help me find a good camera.

Questions:

1. Do all of the cams record to tape? I really want one that records directly to a memory card or something similar.

2. I want a really nice camera that records a great picture and can record in 16:9, but something relatively cheap. A cheap, most bang for the buck type of camera.

3. I would like a brand with a good record in the quality of their cameras hardware.

4. Do most cameras record in both 30 and 24fps? I want something that records in at least 24.

I was looking at the Canon HV30 today and thought it was nice, but i know i could get better opinions from you guys then most retail workers. It was also pretty expensive. I will go up to $1,000 but that's kind of pushing it too.

I would really, really appreciate any help. Thanks a lot guys.

After looking up some stuff I have been leaning towards the Sony SR11. It's pretty cheap now and it seems to be what i'm looking for so far.
