I would really like to just throw out the remote that my old analog TV has when I get the new digital - analog converter box. The remote has to be able to:

1. Turn the TV on and off.
2. Turn the TV volume up and down.
3. Change the channel on the TV

It sounds like they all do 3. The WalMart Magnavox unit apparently won't do number 1, but the Circuit City unit will. I don't know about number 2.

Can anyone help?

The way the Circuit City (Zenith DTT900) works with volume is that the TV is set to maximum volume that you'd want. The volume control on the remote, increases or decreases the audio out from the converter box to the TV.

So here's what the Zenith can do:

1. Turn the TV on and off. YES

2. Turn the TV volume up and down. Yes, but you must first set the TV's volume high.

3. Change the channel on the TV YES, the box will down convert the DTV channel and output it to the TV.

For more information on the box see;

Thanks Mr. Bob! Sounds like that is probably the unit I'll get, especially given the other reviews of it. Of course, this assumes I'll get the coupon some day.

What happens when you have more than one copy of a particular make/model CB in the same place? Will each box respond to every remote command or will they be keyed to a specific remote?

Chances are slim to none that the remotes are unique. When you send a command on one, it will control both boxes.

If you are using one box for the TV and the other box for the VCR, it's best to use two different brands so that both boxes won't do the same thing.

NOTE: The Zenith & Isnignia are really the same box.
