View Full Version : Running 2 xbox's in different rooms?
JasonSuave 03-01-08, 10:05 PM I'm wondering if anyone has a setup with 2 different xbox 360's - each in different rooms? I was thinking about getting a second one for a different room in the house, but would like to know if there's any way to easily share saved games and files between 2 xbox's - such that it's not a nuisance to change out hard drives, or move memory cards.
FrankJ.Cone 03-01-08, 10:41 PM Sorry man you need to move the HDD/Mem card. Hey at least the HDD can be easily removed from this console.
bkchurch 03-02-08, 12:38 AM And bear in mind any content you buy on Live is linked to the box you download it on so if you move the harddrive to the box you didn't download it on you'll have to be connected to Live with the gamertag you purchased it with to use it.
I have 2, I just swap out a mem card and store my live account on it and some of my game data for games I play on both.

+1, works just fine
jasonstiller 03-02-08, 12:30 PM I just move the HD to whatever box Im playing. Ill probably get a mem card soon though. That would be the most convenient way.
e_e_emarpea 03-02-08, 08:00 PM if i swap the hdd to whatever box i feel ike playing on will i have to recover my gamertag each time? this is getting annoying
not at home right now to try.
FreeBaGeL 03-02-08, 08:26 PM So how much of a pain is it to use the memory card to move stuff back and forth? Is it pretty intuitive?
Also, if two people are using both boxes on Live at the same time, is that going to cause bad connection issues/lag?

I'll soon have two Xboxes as well (my original is out for repairs and I decided to get a second one in the interim). Is it possible to have your profile on two different 360's and just use the memory card to manage game saves when going from console to console? Or can your profile only reside on one device at any point in time? I'll probably never have both consoles turned on at the same time so there wouldn't be any danger of the profile being accessed on both machines simultaneously.

Nope, just plug and play. The only time it gets messy is if you use the mem card method AND you have a copy of your GT on the local hard drive too. I use the mem card method and what I do is I do not have my GT on any of my 360 hard drives; I just use those for save games and DLC. My GT is on the mem card and I just swap that between my 360s.

Hmmm...that might be a problem for me. I literally just picked up my second xbox (haven't even hooked it up yet). I'll be using 360 #1 95% of the time so I want to just leave my GT on there (it's already on there anyway) and use it in the other room about 5% of the time.
Is there a solution for this? I can't just leave the GT on both consoles? I thought it would automatically be synched up through live or something...
257Tony 03-02-08, 11:27 PM I used to do the moving of HDD's and mem cards from my HT room into my office, but realized that unplugging the HDMI, power, and ethernet was just about as fast, and lots cheaper:D
tonov12 03-03-08, 01:15 AM I just bought a 360 for bedroom use and found that using a memory unit is the easiest and cheapest way. You can get one used for $20-25. It's tons easier then recovering your acct. each time, it literally took 15 mins to recover each time. Now I just plug in the MU to the console and sign in, piece of cake. It's not a problem leaving your GT on the main console and then moving it to the MU when you wanna play in the other room. Just plug in the MU, move your GT over to it from the hard drive, and simply plug the MU into the other console and sign in. Literally takes seconds.

You can move your Tag to a mem unit, then use a backup unit to copy it to a PC, then move it back to the original HDD and then restore the backup from the PC to the mem card and have two copies. Of course you cannot have them both on Live, if one goes online the other gets kicked off.
Mindwarper 03-03-08, 12:31 PM Ive had 5 360s sharing my internet playing online. I have 8mb down and 786kb up. Most of the time, it works great, but occasional lag.
If you swap hard drive. It contains your gamertag and you will not need to recover. You can also move files around with a card. But in the end, having a 2nd account is great for when your friends visit.
JasonSuave 03-03-08, 04:22 PM This is all great information! It sounds like the easiest method is to just switch out hard drives. I like the memory card idea, but that would mean that I'd need to move all of my current saved games to the memory card (from the hard drive), and going forward re-point every game to save on the memory card (instead of the hard drive). The other issue I see with memory card is that would supplement the hard drive in the second xbox, which would mean I wouldn't get to move my xbla games.
Ryansdad 03-03-08, 05:19 PM another thing to consider while using the memory card, any additional maps or packs for games will stay on the hd and you will not have access to them when plugging your mu to the other 360.
tonov12 03-05-08, 12:03 PM Sure you will. You can just download them on the new one. With game saves I just copy the newest one onto the MU and go. Takes no time and I find that I don't need to do that as often as I thought. I still do most of my gaming on one console.
Mindwarper 03-05-08, 12:21 PM Consider getting a 2nd xbl account for when your friends are over.
one thing to remember, if you buy a mappack, you have to be signed in on the gamertag to access the download. But you can download it to multiple hard drives. My friend has no problem moving his account around on a card. Another uses the drive.
