I expect the answer is NO (it does not work)... but has anyone tried to run TSReader: www.coolstf.com/tsreader/ -- on the output of one of the new Digital to Analog Converter Boxes (CECB)?

"TSReader is a transport stream analyzer, decoder, recorder and stream manipulator for MPEG-2 systems."

As I expected, there is no mention of these ATSC converter boxes on the TSReader hardware page: http://www.coolstf.com/tsreader/hardware.html .

I previously could use TSReader Lite by connecting my Samsung HL-S5679W TV's Firewire (IEEE 1394) port to the Firewire port of my WinXP PC. I used the "meidvhs" driver for "Tuner AV/C Device" and VLC. But, this Samsung TV died within 30 days, and Samsung replaced it with my present HL-T5689S that has no Firewire port.

My present PC contains an ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 9600 SERIES (2006 Edition) video card containing an NTSC TV Tuner.

Do the present CECB's output an MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) with PSIP data that TSReader is capable of reading? I'm doubtful, but I am the first to admit that I do not thoroughly understand the technical issues my question implies.

Thanks for your comments. Avio

Not heard of any of the, SD-only composite output, digital to analogue converter boxes sold for the $40 coupon programme having Firewire, or other, connectivity.

They are all engineered down to a price point - and I suspect that price point doesn't allow for connectivity that the vast majority of users will never use.

Some boxes sold in the UK for satellite have USB2 or eSATA outputs turning them into PVRs when used with external hard drives - but these are not the low-end models, and they aren't suitable for use with TSReader.

I would have thought you'd have been better off with a cheap ATSC USB2 stick as a tuner for TSReader ?

The government specs for CECBs disqualify converters that have any digital output.
