You do realize it can only be used to store non marketplace videos and music to play back on a 360, right?

I don't know what limitations there are on sizes and such.

no, because anything you plan on putting on the external HD is most likely somewhere on your PC, and if your 360 and PC use the same router you can just stream them to your 360 like pretty much everyone else does...

if you want more space then youd be better served to buy the 120 gb hdd for the 360. its a little high priced though.

I put 1080p HD movies on my external hdd since my wireless connection isnt fast enough to stream them. Other than that, I stream all my other stuff.

I bought one of those tiny san disk usb flash drives to listen to my music while I'm playing Burnout or other games. Serves that purpose real well and it's easy.

i have a 160gb external hdd. HD movie trailers, movies, 30gbs' of music. my 360 detects this hdd much faster than my 60gb ipod so i now use this for custom soundtracks.
i have both my pc and 360 sharing the same router, but damn it, cant get streaming to work! I've tried everything. tversity is the one program that works correctly with a very annoying bug that doesnt read metadata. so all my songs show up as "Track (insert number)". weird.

I really like my 750gb Seagate FreeAgent Pro. It has a USB2.0 and eSata connection. It's fast and very quiet (it's sitting right by my TV with my other AV equipment). I'm using it with a NAS right now, but before I had it connected directly to my 360 via USB.

Well if you get an external hard drive you need to be aware that there is a file size limit. The hard drive normally will have to be formatted FAT32 for the 360 to recognize it. The problem is FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit. To get around that I put 2 partitions on my Maxtor 750GB external drive. One partition is 100GB I formated NTFS and then the rest I used a program called MacDrive for Windows and formatted it to a hybrid file system called HFS+. Now you can say bye-bye to the 4GB file limit. I recommend the NTFS partition on the drive cuz if you don't put it on there then any PC that doesn't have MacDrive software on it it won't see the drive at all. I would assume that if you have a Mac then it will see it anyway since that is the file system for the ipod.
