View Full Version : Hey all Aussies, anyone in Melbourne with a G-90
Andy0217 03-03-08, 06:39 AM Hi fellow Aussies,
Just wondering if there are any Melbournians kind enough to let me see and hear their G-90 working so I can decide on which path to follow with my next PJ purchase.
I am thinking that my best bet is going Digital with a CIH setup for a tru cinematic experience, but now I am not so sure.
I already have Ruben's SMX material and need to make a decision before I start making the screen with electric masking.
Thanks in advance,
Cheers Andrew...
oliverg 03-03-08, 08:38 AM RichardC bought one of my twins. He's a perfectionist so his setup would definately be worth checking out.
Then again, he might hate visitors :) So sorry Richard if I've dobbed you in.
My other twin went to a gentleman in Perth, so no joy there. I know of only 2 others but I can't recall their usernames.
Good luck
PS what is your budget?
Andy0217 03-04-08, 07:17 AM Hi Oliver,
Thanks for your reply.
Maybe Richard will be kind enough to send me an invitation when he is set up & running.
Haven't really thought about a budget at this stage, just trying to decide which way to go.
Regards Andrew...
if you have the smx, remember with a digital you might have to rotate the screen due to morae
Mark_A_W 03-04-08, 07:48 PM I know of two in Melb, one awaiting new tubes (and possibly for sale), the other is up and running, but I don't feel comfortable dobbing him in for a demo, without asking.

I have a G70 for sale, not sure as to price yet, my G90 is undergoing mods at the moment.
Green c element change, and the fan mod.
Then I will install it, will give you a pm when finished

Show some pics/steps of those two mods if you can.
Are you going to remove the tube for the C-Element mod or do it with the G90 standing up ? Did you get your Green C-Element from VDC? Are you going to clean the C-Element before putting it on or is it already clean? If you are cleaning it what are you using? (I do not recall if the C-Element has a coating at all and if care is required here when cleaning).
Andy0217 03-07-08, 06:29 PM Hey Richard,
That would be great, much appreciated and many thanks, look forward to your PM.
I am keen to see how quiet the G-90 will be with the fan mod. Are you doing this yourself?
And Bomrat, thanks for the advice re the moire with SMX. I believe the general concensus is 15 degrees tilt is enough.
If I go with a CRT, it will be a 1.78 screen with vertical electric masking, or if Digital, then 2.35 with horizontal masking and an anamorphic lens.
Cheers Andrew..
Richardc 03-07-08, 08:16 PM Hi Andrew
I am doing both mods myself, I have been in the Electronics Industry for about 40 years.
Mainly working on optics and laser scanners for the Newspaper Industry and what ever else they wanted repaired.
At the moment I am repairing Automotive Computers ECU's etc, sort of semi retired.

OH..OH..Please Richard,let me in on the demo,pretty please::o
I cant decide whether to go 8"lc or the whole hog with a 9" beast.
I've only seen 8"ac pj's and a demo of the mighty g90 will make my decision making much easier.
Richardc 03-08-08, 10:23 PM huggy1 where do you live
Richard
Oh,sorry, forgot to mention I'm in Melbourne,Nth Suburbs.

Since you were interesting in CH, if you get a CRT, why not do a constant area set up with a 4 way masking system? Constant area really is nice, and a G90 can pull it off rather well.
