Now that HD-DVD is dead, and I'm a sucker for dead formats
(why else would I post in here:)), any recommendations on some good surround and/or high resolution music ?

There are some music discs listed here:

I really love the sound of the Eagle Farewell Tour I HD-DVD. The concert is excellent all around in my opinion.

The Eagles, the James Taylor Musicares HD-DVD in DTS-HD Master Audio is a great suprise, and any of Alexander Jero's HD-DVD music only releases are superb demo discs. Start with the Jazz disc. It has great surround and an amazing slide show of cities of the world.

Roy Orbison Black and White Night. Sounds too good to be live.

This disc has dts and 2 channel PCM tracks. I find the PCM significantly better. I've read that there's an unannounced dts-MA track as well. But, my player doesn't bitstream high bit rate audio...

Mark Knopfler and EmmyLou Harris "Live Roadrunning" is also an excellent disc. It's 16:9 SD with dts and 2 channel PCM tracks. The video quality is excellent for SD. I prefer the PCM track on this disc as well.

For DVD-Audio/SACD, I suggest Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms", The Beatles "Love", Grateful Dead "Workingman's Dead", Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon", and Jackson Browne "Running on Empty".

The Cream and NIN HD-DVDs are awesome. Cream only has 2-channel PCM or DTS but NIN disc has 5.1 TrueHD track.

I have Song Remains the Same, Eagles, and Mahlers 2nd on order.
