I'm wondering if someone can help I tried reading and posting questions in home automation and I still can't find what I need. I'm just about ready to drywall my theater and I have 3 lighting zones. one for rope lights a second for sconces and a third for my highhats. What i want to be able to do is to have a keypad outside the room that I can hit a button and all the lights go on then I want to be able to sit down and hit watch movie and have 2 zones fade down and leave 1 zone on or vice versa. I dont need to have control over the dimming or fading up I just want to set it once to where it needs to go then that it. Finally from what I understand radioRA and grafik will do this but its out of my $ range. So i was looking at insteon? but i'm not sure if it will do what I want. Any input or direction would help Also forgot to mention I'm going with the universal remote medius TX 1000

I'm using Insteon. In a closet I have 4 SwitchLinc Dimmers that control bar lights, stage lights and rope, and a ToggleLinc Relay for star ceiling.
In the main HT I use a KeypadLinc which controls HT sconces and scenes.
My KeypadLinc keys are programed for:
A = Sconces only
B = Star ceiling only
C = Movie Scene (Rope 60% & Rear Bar 10%)
D = Clean Up Scene (Front/Rear Bar & Sconces)
E = Front Bar only
F = Rear Bar only
G = Stage Spots only
H = All Off
Problem with my KeypadLinc (old version) is I cannot have different on levels and ramp rates in different scenes for the KeypadLinc load (i.e. my sconces). This is supposedly possible in new KeypadLinc versions.
I've just ordered the IRLinc that I'll use to integrate with my URC MX-980 remote. I 'believe' that I will have greater control the on levels & ramp rates using the IRLinc - I'm hoping they ship me the IRLinc this week so I can play over next weekend.
I think Insteon will meet your needs.......but if you can wait I should be able to confirm soon.

Not sure what price range you want to be in but I am looking at a similar situation and have been leaning toward Leviton's Vizia RF scene controls that are z-wave compatible. I think you can get a 4 zone/scene control for about $125. If your remote is z-wave compatible, you can program from your remote.
Hope this helps or at least gives you some ideas of something else to look at.

not really sure if the remote is z-wave compatable I haven't received it I'll have to lookup the specs. I am leaning towards the insteon, but I'll check out Leviton's control and see which one will work for me.
