I seen on gamestop.com that this game comes out tomorrow, but I have seen some people say they have already picked it up. Does anyone know of stores that have put it out on the shelves? I know one day later isnt that big of a deal, but I have some time off from work and school tonight and could use some game to get my off my hermit COD ways.

LOL! Very funny rdank.
Even at XBOX.com the date says that it's out today. I called my local Gamecrazy and they don't have the game, or a date. I would like to see some reviews on this one first anyway.

BUT! Is The Show THE must have baseball game? THAT is the question!

If anyone picks this up, let us know what you think. I'm really wanting a baseball game but 2k7 just didn't do it for me.

The Show is much better, especially in regards to single player modes. Obviously folks will lean both ways, but I don't think there's much debate here. The Show wins hands down.

Well...everyone might want to hold off for a bit on this one. Early reports from OpSports suggest that there are some potential framerate issues that are very problematic.

"The Show" isn't available on the 360, correct? So...why is it being discussed in the Xbox area?

I would stop by one of your local retailers. I bet many have the game in stock today. Let us know what you think of the game.

Picked this up after work and haven't played it yet, but reading the reviews it seems like it's the same game besides having a different NY shortstop on the cover... I also read people having frame rate issues... Come on 2k... MLB should remove their exclusive license...

7.4 from IGN. 7.8 from Teamxbox. This is no way to start the 2008 sports season on 360. Another bad year for sports games????????? This sucks!

correct...

and it was probably brought up because if people own both systems, they obviously want to get the best baseball game, and from what i hear it's The Show by far right now...

MVP 2005 was a great baseball game. Baseball stars and RBI were great baseball games. MLS k28 is junk. Are we going backwards here?

The demo was posted today for those that are still interested. I'll be checking it out at least, but I really doubt I'm going to buy the game this year.

You know, I'm liking this game more than I thought I would. There def some chopiness to it (especially when throwing the ball across the infield) but I think it has potential. The pitching is what's hooking me right now. It's taking me a while to get used to it and get decent at it. So I think that's what is going to keep me coming back for more right now.

I think it looks and plays better than 2k7 (which I thought was utter crap). So as of right now, I'm not completely disappointed with this purchase.

It'd be cool if at some point, they had the actual minor league stadiums up for download. I live about 3 miles away from one and it'd be cool to play in it.

I'd buy MVP 2005 if it was BC, that was a great baseball game.

I played this game last night. Played an exhibition game for about 2 innings, then jumped into my Franchise. I am the Tigers, and I lost to the lowly Royals 3-1. My initial impressions:

- I like the new pitching interface. A poster mentioned there was a pitching tutorial - once I found it and used it, I really got used to it. I much prefer this interface over last years. In my game, Verlander allowed 8 hits, including 2 solo shots.

- I still cannot get used to the Swing Stick, or Swing Stick 2.0 this year. I'm back on classic.

- But, I only got 3 hits in my game. There were several times when I thought I made really good contact with the ball, and had my guessing circle in the right area of the pitch, only resulting in a pop out or a weak grounder. I think I will be adjusting the sliders. I'm on Pro level. Wait a sec - If I adjust sliders, is it like last year, where I'm not considered to be on "Pro" level anymore, and therefore cannot get the Achievements? I hope not.

- I don't mind the new fielding/throwing to the bases controls. I will get used to them.

- The framerate issues are TERRIBLE, and need to be addressed in a patch, like yesterday. I don't understand how they released the game like that, aside from the fact that they're the only game in town for the 360,a nd they don't care.

- I miss the trivia that they has in 2K7, but the "probability to win" thing is ok.

- I liked the live/real life "bottom line" ticker for real scores and news.

- Back to the hitting real quick - like I said, there were times when I guessed where the pitch was going correctly, but the pitching circle didn't pop up like it did in 2K7, showing that I guessed right. It wouldn't show up until after I made contact or missed. I did strike out quite a bit, not sure on the totals.

All in all, I like the game. They need to fix the stuttering in game, and I hope that by adjusting the sliders, it's not considered below the "Pro" level, and I can still get Achievements. Hope my impressions help out someone thinking about buying the game. More user impressions on the game would be great!

Late cracks,
Matt

Ok, I get it, I'm the only one playing this game, and this is my last attempt to keep a MLB 2K8 thread going :D

I'm now 4-10, getting better. One thing that is cool, unlike last years version, is that if you adjust the sliders on Pro, you still get the achievements that require you to be on Pro or higher. I started my franchise on Pro, but I was having trouble hitting, so I adjusted the sliders to help out. Last night I got several achievements that required me to be on Pro, which is cool.

That is all!

Matt

I'm still with ya!

I'm still playing Exhibitions until I can get better at pitching. I was reading over at the 2k forums that there is a patch coming out to fix the frame rates but I don't know when they're going to release it. They said that a temp fix is to sign out of your profile during a game and then resume playing. But it sucks if you get any Achievements during the game because you can't save them if you're signed out.

Any idea why being signed in to your profile would affect the frame rate of the game??

Yea, I saw that temp fix, but I haven't done it, nor will I. It's silly that that is their temp fix. Doesn't make sense to me.

Have you done the pitching tutorial? Helped me out alot.

Whats funny, is I started this thread and I got the game the day it came out, but I only haved played one game on it since I bought it. I'm having a tough time putting down the COD4 and plus I just bought a PS3 from someone and have been playing Heavenly Sword. The one game I did play was tough, I couldn't get the pitching part down so I got rocked in the first inning

After playing the demo, IMO, this game is so much worse than 2k7, it's funny. Disgusting! How does that happen?! Maybe they spoke with EA on how to make a sports game worse than the previous year. Sports games were the driving force for my gaming 10 years ago. Today they're almost a waste of development. But, the dream is still alive, and one day they'll return to greatness, trust.

Dual console owners will be much better off with The Show on PS3. A few years ago, MVP was far superior to MLB 2k and now it seems that The Show has picked up where MVP left off. I've been a fan of the NBA 2k series for years, so it's disappointing that 2k sports doesn't seem capable of making a quality baseball game.

The funny thing is that EA's best sports game was MVP and 2k stole the license from them. It's a downright shame they got the license and 2k has done an injustice to baseball fans! There should be some kind of law against companies like EA and 2k prohibiting other developers from using a license. As having owned both the 360 and PS3 I can tell you that MLB 2k doesn't even compare to the show. I really feel bad in this way for 360 only owners.

I understand your point, but being a 360-only owner, and not knowing what I'm missing out on with The Show, I am fairly happy with 2K8. Yes, there are well documented issues to be fixed, and yes, exclusivity sucks, but it's not a terrible game.

The wide regular camera(not zoom) and 100 zoom allow you to really adjust to different pitch types and velocity. This also adds to the realism and immersion factor of actually having an atbat. Be sure to turn strikezone on for Human Hitters.

How easy is 2k8?

I'm still playing 2k7 as I'm dedicated to finishing my full season, but the game got easy way too quick. I tried playing on Legendary and it is still too easy, so I pushed the sliders even further to a point where it actually felt a bit more real. Had to turn off the strikezone for human hitters, had to turn off inside edge.

I finally got the game to a point where it feels like a competitive game of baseball as opposed to blowing every team out of the water by 15+ runs. Even still I find that I can hit a homerun whenever I want as the power swing is just flawed to all hell.

Any issues in 2k8 like this?
