I now have a Infocus 7200. Getting power supply fixed and will move to pool/pingpong, ps3/xbox360 teenagers rowdy playpen.
Current screen is a Carada Brilliant White 118" diagonal 16:9, projector is 17'5" away. We sit 16-17' away. Don't have total light control until evening. This is when most of our viewing takes place. New projector will be in the same location and I'd like to go with a 134" Carada Brilliant White 16:9 screen.
I have a PS3 80 gig and xbox360 for BR and HDDVD. Direct TV for HD. I'm very interested in the new Infocus IN83 because it's very brite and uses the new DarkChip 4. BenQ 20000 sounds like a great projector. How about the Sharp 20000. What else should I be looking at. Are these projectors that much better then say a IN82 or BenQ 10000. I've never seen an RS1/RS2. How do these compare. Thanks a lot.

Is that going to be a 2.35 134" screen? If you are going for a 2.35 setup I would recommend the Marantz VP15S1. Its beautiful and does everything you need.

If you like the DLP "look", you may not want to go to an LCoS projector like the RS1/RS2.
I agree that the VP15S1 should be on your short list, as it's one of the best (perhaps *the* best) in the under $10,000 price range.
I agree that DLP has a different look from LCOS. Even my 12 year old has commented on the difference (without pointing it out). If I were looking at a sub $6k DLP I'd go for the 15S1.

I would read this 15S1 review closely. The light output varies considerably:

Hmm, I had no idea the Marantz 15S1 could be had for less than $6K.
I am in a similar situation in that I am looking for a projector in the $6K or less price range except I want to go with a 137" wide 2.35:1 AT screen with a gain of 1.16... This of course limits my options because I really need about at least 800 lumens after calibration to get 15 ft lamberts.
I think Jason measured over 800 lumens from the 15S1 but then another review reported something significantly less. For the purposes of this discussion let's assume that 800+ lumens is the norm (with manual iris wide open) for a new bulb and the other review got a bad bulb for some reason.
I have all but made my mind up to go with the IN83 if it comes out for around $6K street.
Here is my rational:
IN83 Pros:
1. Bright based on a few reviews the IN82 put out more than 1000 lumens post calibration and the IN83 should be a little brighter putting it between 1100 and 1200 lumens after calibration.
2. Dark Chip 4 with dynamic black. This should yield class leading on/off and ansi contrast ratios.
IN83 Cons:
1. Fixed 136% lens offset! This really stinks as it makes mounting a pain in the neck. I will have to tilt my screen etc.
2. Limited zoom range
15S1 Pros:
1. Great name with the best optics and very sharp picture
2. Vertical lens shift to greatly reduce mounting complexity and no screen tilt needed.
3. Greater zoom range.
15S1 Cons:
1. Darkchip 3 with no dynamic black - (As compared to IN83)
2. 800 lumens at best - I would reduce my screen size some.
I am sure that the Marantz has the superior optics but I am also thinking that the IN83 will still be very good and be very sharp based on the IN82 performance. I doubt I will notice the difference in sharpness or an CA that may be improved on the Marantz as compared to the extra brightness and CR. My thoughts are I will deal with the mounting issues for these strengths at this price range.
Any additional thoughts?

I don't know much about the IN83; Will it do the video processing for a 2:35 screen? I know the VP15s1 will. More food for thought...
Yes the IN83 (like the IN82) does vertical stretch for 2.35 to 1.
