That sub is probably going to have to go. I don't think you'll ever set it up to your liking, that kind of stuff just isn't very good.

Maybe set a budget and start putting some cash away and look forward to a new sub.

i was at a local video only a while back and somebody was getting a $6000 plasma and the top bose system. he was happy, and i didnt have the heart to tell him i could get the plasma for $2000 cheaper, and a system that would kick the bose into the ground for less money. i was just happy to be an informed avs consumer.
its nice to know that what ever theater you want to go to my system on a budget will kill it.
thanks to all at avs, you rock!

I have just got to the point where I don't even try to discourage people anymore about their Blose choice. I stopped my parents from buying Bose with the aid of my brother but that's about as far as I've gone. Everyone else just knows that Bose is the best thing money can buy and won't listen to me. Oh well...there loss.

Go to Parts Express and look at their Dayton 12'' or do a search on the ebays for a BIC H-100...those are the two that immediately come to mind that would be sub $250 range that "hit hard" aka have plenty of output if that's what you're into.

Sell the Bose stuff on ebay to recover your costs :D

When you say the sub is set to full, what exactly are you meaning? I think an investment in a radio shack sound meter, and using the test tones on the Onkyo to set the levels on all speakers to the same 75 db and you can set the sub at maybe 3db hot at 78db.... also check to make sure the speakers are all set to small and a crossover, if adjustable is set to 80 htz, and see how that all sounds together.. if you have the sub set overly high, it will sound muddy and bloated, and will not hit at all. It's kind of like a perscription, more isn't better, in fact, it could be fatal!:)

If you need it to "hit" harder, you're going to need more woofage. Which also includes power.

The only thing bose can hit hard is the bottom of the garbage container.

HA HA, True on the Blose, but I think the OP is asking about his Onkyo HTIB sub. I've heard that same HTIB, and it is a weak link of the system. He does need to look into getting a different Sub if he wants it to hit harder.

HTIB and bose are more or less the same thing. A set of top range computer multimedia speakers like Promedia Ultra or Gigaworks, beats most HTIB's I think.

its not actually bose, its theater innovation, it looks like the bose system but sounds even worse, what about building a sub?

HAHAHAHA that was a good one! I work for a electronic retailer and today some guy was all about this bose system so I went and showed him our theater room and for what the bose cost I showed him what he could have for the same price. His jaw hit the floor so fast it was hilarious.

If the sub is only good on a couple songs it's possible you have a really big bass peak over a certain range of frequencies, and those songs on which it seems to "hit" hard have lots of bass in that range. Otherwise it makes no sense that it would only hit hard on a couple of songs. I don't know how to adjust the Onkyo 605 receiver, but I'd imagine you could look in the manual and see how to adjust the levels for speakers/subwoofer there.
