lacombo 03-03-08, 07:55 PM IGN: Saints Row 2 Preview (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/856/856491p1.html)
As those who played through the first Saints Row know by now, your nameless character was taken out at the end of the storyline thanks to a well-timed boat bomb (like a car bomb, but on a boat). Somehow your kingpin survived the explosion, but not without serious cosmetic damage. Thus the fact that you begin the new storyline by reshaping your character's physique at a doctor's office in the big house is a bit more fitting. You'll later find out that it was actually the higher ups of your own gang who set you up to buy the farm, now it's up to you to rebuild the gang, exact some sweet revenge, and rid Stillwater of the new competing gangs.
Now you'll be able to change their taunt, compliment, walk and combat styles. Taunt options include things like The Dumper, Dog Pissing, Ride the Donkey, The Wanker, and Tea Bag. We'll let your imagination run wild at those possibilities. The different walks range from Pimp Walk to Crazy Walk which makes your character look like a meth head for lack of a better term. Compliments can be as simple as a salute or as complicated as a full-blown riverdance. Those, along with a combat style, come together to create the personality of your gangster which will apparently change the way that characters in the world react to your actions. Also, unlike in the first Saints, your character will actually have plenty of dialogue (there are over 60,000 lines of dialogue throughout Saints 2) to push the plot along. Hooray for no longer being a mute!

FormidableOne 03-03-08, 08:31 PM Well I just had the game legitimately spoiled for me. :D It's no problem though as this game is pretty old and I should have completed it by now. I just bought it used the other day and decided to give it a try and loved it. Can't wait to see this ending then... I've only taken out the Carnales and Rollerz.
That being said, back on-topic; I cannot wait for SR2 to come out. I have spent countless hours just running around and causing mayhem all over Stillwater. From what I have come to understand about the second installment is that it will take place once again in Stillwater. The map is *supposed* to be 45% larger in scale compared to SR1's Stillwater.
If that proves right, that is a whole lot more area to cause destruction. Can't wait to see more previews for this game.
I'm more excited for SR2 then that GTA whatever game ;)
The multiplayer, which includes a full fledged co-op mode, is said to be totally revamped from the first Saints but no details were given beyond that.
Oh yeah!
Man oh man this is sounding good!

Part of that increase in area is done through underground spaces. How cool would it be to have a subway or sewage system or something similar to explore and roam around in along with the top side stuff? I'm looking forward to GTA IV, but with how good Saints Row was I'd be a fool to overlook this game.
Anyone figure out how to grammatically reconcile the title "Saints Row"? I figured if it was the area where the 3rd Street Saints hang out, it would be Saints' Row, or possibly Saint's Row. Saints Row never made sense to me. I guess after doing a little searching it sounds like the grammar mistake is intentional, to make a comment on the general lack of proper grammar in society.
clevername 03-03-08, 11:01 PM I really enjoyed Saint's Row and actually finished it...a first for me in sandbox games. And I didn't get sick of it.
Looking forward to the sequel.
FrankJ.Cone 03-04-08, 07:09 AM After hearing GTA4 STILL uses a crappy lock on aiming system I am awaiting this even more impatiently than I was.
HeadRusch 03-04-08, 08:51 AM Saints Row was a game I got free when it came out..and then never played it, until like a year later...and then I really, really lenjoyed it. Until I brickwalled at the end. There is some mission where you gotta drive a bus, or a semi or something and take out a guy on a bus.....to block his path or something and I tried it like 2 dozen times and could never do it.
I figured the game was pretty much over at that point and gave up...I guess I should go and find the FAQ to seehow to finish that mission and actually get the achievement points for finishing the game. But I loved it too. After awhile I got into the whole thing and had great fun, plus the city is fun to roam around in.
I'd buy SR2.

Saints, we wouldn't use an apostrophe... at least I don't think! "The Saints locker room.... The Saint's locker room" I think the 1st is correct :D
"Saints" is the name of the gang, it's not a noun, like saint (sainthood).
I think they could have pushed the character creation further. The changes don't seem to effect the game. Certain skills could lend to particular gameplay, which result in an entirely different story progression. Something along the lines of Oblivion, I guess would push the game into another realm from GTAIV.
SR is a great game though. I just hated being constantly interrupted by rival gangs claiming my territory, while I'm in the midst of something else. Very annoying. Other than that, plenty of features (esecially car management, weapons cache control, and homies are great backup!)
HeadRusch 03-04-08, 09:41 AM Actually I didn't mind the Rival Gang stuff in Saints Row, it was NOTHING compared to the huge PITA that was the rival-gang stuff from San Andreas. That just got old FAST, every other minute it seemed I had to drive all the way back to some place to fight a gang war......its one of the reasons I got bored with the game actually, that and having to drive like 10 real-world minutes to get back to my "hood" :P
Shoot a dozen guys, drive all the way back..then do it again 5 minutes later. :P

In your example it would be "The Saints' locker room." It's just a plural possessive, just like the game name should be. I did some googling and found that the grammarians at Volition wanted it to be "Saints' Row", but were overruled for the subtle jab at society.

It would be pretty cool to have a modern-day sandbox game with an RPG-lite thing going on (but not something as annoying as the stuff in San Andreas). Maybe even full-on RPG like Oblivion. I guess we'll see how that works in Fallout 3.
deedubbadoo 03-04-08, 01:57 PM Never got to finish the first, I might have to go back and do that before the new one comes out. Great game though!
