Ours is dying. just need something to watch pbs news hour while eating dinner. Have a front projector for everything else. Have only found a "dura..something" brand at w*mart so far and a used sony. Anybody have a "dura...something" or any other ideas. I'd rather not spend the extra $100-150 for an lcd with a equal or lesser picture...don't care about seeing Jim Lehrer in HD.

just get whatever one you can find. In that size, youre not going to get more of anything from one brand to another.
I think most brands of TV in that size are functional, and CRT issues with off-brands are usually on larger sets with better connections etc. This is Where you are more likely to be critical, and the technology is actually being pushed to its limits.

Another option is to just buy a used one locally off Craigslist for a few bucks, and maybe a couple of spares to store away for the future :)

Check Craigslist for a good used 13" Sony Trinitron.

The Dura something you are talking about is Durabrand. Wal-Mart has them. I bought one last year to use outdoors and in the garage. It works great. It has ATSC and QAM tuners. Picture quality from OTA digital looks much better than I ever saw from analog cable. It will let you manually enter RF channel numbers to add channels not picked up on a scan. The only downside to this tv is that it does not have stereo.
Here are 2. I have both of them.
This one is stereo but does not have any audio output, has a flat screen (Walmart): http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=5633688
This one does not have stereo, but has an earphone jack and actually sounds *excellent* if you run it through a system. Although the ad says analog, at the store is the digital model.
