What are the differences - if any - between the Mitsubishi HC5000, HC5000BL and the HC5000U. I'm mainly interested in the 5000U and need to know if it is internally the same as a 5000? I can't find any info regarding the similarities or differences of the different designations - even on the Mitsu site. Some images of the 5000U show a white casing and some show a black shell... which is right?

I am not sure but I believe the 5000 version are discontinued. The most popular versions are the 6000 and the 4900. I have the 6000 and love it.

the only differences are between the 5000 and 5000bl. I haven't heard of the 5000u. The 5000 comes in a white case and the bl comes in a black case. No other differences in performance. I just picked up a bl from videgon at an amazing price, and yes they have been discontinued. Let us know which one you get. Mine comes on Wednesday

The 5000U is listed on Amazon.com and appears to be the same as the 5000 and 5000BL

The one from the camera store in NYC is vapor-ware. Never, ever, try to buy a projector from a camera store in NYC.

The second vendor one is re-furbished.

If you can spring a little extra $$$, you should contact this forums sponser, AV Science store, for a great price on a HC6000.

The HC6000 absolutely blows-away the HC5000 and all the variants.

The reason I was asking was I have a consultation client that was interested in the 5000BL and I saw the 5000U on Amazon at $1998 and free shipping. The client wanted to be sure the 5000U is black. Since my original post I remembered that another client had bought the 5000U from Amazon last month (6th Ave Electronics was the vendor) for $1998 and I emailed him asking him if it was black or white. He replied this afternoon that it is "all black". So he answered my original question for me.

I'm wondering why the 6th Ave projector is considered "vapor-ware"? The previous client received his item as ordered thru Amazon and 6th Ave has a 97% positive feedback as an Amazon seller.

The 6000 is indeed a fine and perhaps better projector but it is also $1200 more than the 5000U. My current client has looked at the 6000 and he feels the price difference is not justified at this point.
