I have Comcast hooked to my Sony KDL-40W3000 via QAM and also using the cable box. I get this crackling sound when there is a switch between cameras especially when watching channel 5 news. I.E. when they go from commercials back to the studio and street scenes back to the studio. It is worse with the QAM but I also hear it through the box. Anyone experiance this or know what it is?
TIA
William

Does this occur on any other channel?

The only time I noticed was on 5.2. I don't think it happens on SD 5 either.
Thanks

If it is unique to that one channel more then likely it is (was) a problem on the broadcast end not your equipment!!

Give some detail about your set up, when you change channels are you changing a STB, the TV tuner, a different input?

To follow up...I had the cable guy here and of course the local news wasn't on so he didn't do anything other than check the signal strength and said I should try another T.V. but he thought it could be the broadcast. So I have a friend nice enough to bring over his small L.G. HDTV with QAM tuner and hook up to his set and his was also popping when the channel 5 news came on. So at least I feel better now knowing it's not the T.V but I still don't know how to fix the problem. RC this is with the QAM tuner or the HD cable box it doesn't matter.

Sorry. Its a Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 contected to a Time Warner Smansung HD digital cable reciever running Mystro software. It is connect via HDMI. I get the popping noise when I change from SD to HD content on the same input.
I think it has something to do when the Aspect Ratio changes because there is a quick blink of static when the channels change. I also got that 'pop' when I changed the Aspect Ration via the settings menu on my cable box from 4x3 to 16X9 even when I had the volume set to 'minimum'.

This is so isolated to that one channel only during the news it really points to the broadcast!!
If you want to pursue this you can probably contact the stations engineer (most I have dealt with were willing to talk with me).
Tell him or her what you observed and perhaps someone else may have noticed the same thing.
