I'm tired of the limited # of HD channels my cable provider gives us (Charter, about 12 channels, only watch about 8). I have a DVR now and must have one with the DirecTV.

My house has cable run to every room and was built in 2001. The cable comes into the house underground, plugs into a big junction box that all the rooms plug into. I have read about the Zinwell multiswitch which I feel would work. The problem I think I will have is running the two cable feeds to the DVR. That room is above a finished garage and I can't run another line there. The satellite will be on the outside wall. Can I run 3 cable lines from the satellite to the multiswitch and one directly through the exterior wall to the DVR for the second feed?

I have read about the singlewire multiswitch (SWM) but I don't want to pay $300 for it. Also I have a wireless and wired network in my house, but I don't know if that matters at all.

I really did try to read and do a search, but my head and eyes are sore from reading so much information ;) .

Thanks!

Eventually SWMs will come into common usage and will be cheap or free with installation. That doesn't help you for right now though.

Yes, the DVR has two independent input sources. It never knows where the feeds are coming from, it just wants to make sure it comes from the satellite. You could run one feed from each of your neighbors house if you wanted to. Well, and of course, if the neighbors didn't know!

If you were to connect a fish tape to one end of your feed and pull it through to an accessible area, would you be able to then connect a new feed and the original feed back and pull it through to your wall jack? My living room originally had a single cable feed, I had to pull that through to my attic with a string attached in my living room. Then I tied a new coax end and the original end to the string and pull it back through into my living room. Just make sure you connections are tight, you don't want to lose your fish tape or sting in the middle of the process or you're cooked.

Thanks for the info! I don't know if I can snake another through, the house was built in 2000 and the Building Inspector was really a stickler on foaming up all the holes, fire-something it was called, so the wiring through the floors is all foamed up. I could ask my electrician about it though.
