I'd like to get some opinions on what do with a DVD player I have that has for the most part stopped working. It still reads some CDs but has a hard time reading anything else. It's a Proscan PS8680Z that I bought about 8 years ago for $250 at Circuit City. From what I've read on the internet at the time it was considered a pretty nice player but it seems a lot of people had trouble with them after a few years. I feel lucky that I got almost 8 years out of mine. Since it was a pretty good player is it even worth getting repaired? What other options do I have besides just throwing it in the trash can? Will electronic stores take it for spare parts? Thanks in advance for the advice!
is it even worth getting repaired? Not unless you can do it yourself. What other options do I have besides just throwing it in the trash can?Disassemble and sell individual parts on eBay.
In fact you will probably have to pay a disposal fee to throw it away depending on your jurisdiction! Will electronic stores take it for spare partsNO!

I would open it up, blow out the dust, reseat all the chips and connectors, paying particular attention to the laser assembly.
Then I would give up.

Use it as a CD player,I have a six year old Mintek that won't play DVD's anymore so I use it to play CD/MP3.
You could also give it to Goodwill and get a tax deduction.

I've opened it up once and cleaned it out and that seemed to work for awhile. I also left it on for a long period of time and ran multiple CDs in it and that worked. But now it's just not reading DVDs. Thanks for the input!
