My wife and I are going to be looking for our first home very soon. We've been saving for a long time and will having the purchasing power to buy something pretty nice. We rent so we have complete flexibility to find exactly what we want. Originally I wanted to find a house with a nice finished basement. Although now I am considering still getting a home with a finished basement but building a dedicated theater room on the 1st or maybe even 2nd level.

Can those who have 1st or 2nd floor (not basement) theater rooms please post pictures and maybe some advice on how you went about solving challenges associated with this? (i.e. sound, closing off doorways and darkening windows)

Right now I am thinking a decent 2-3k 1080p projector with a 106" screen and some nice berklines or other theater seating in a loveseat configuration. |O|OO|O| I have all of the other equipment[klipsch 7.1, ps3, xbox360, denon 2807].

mine is upstairs (see my thread in my sig as well)... I was able to move a wall, delete a window & add a foot to the 2nd story height (to 9') as i bought pre-build and had the walls insulated R-13 and wired and some conduit. it's not completely sound proof but works for us. If i had to do over i would have had the room shut off and kept attic and then i could do the WHOLE thing myself (& correct). Good luck
