Well, it is refurbished.

The Tivo HD does not support satellite; it supports Cable and Antenna, both in Digital and Analog.

Good deal, compared to what I paid for my DHG-HDD250, but only thing I don't like about Tivo is the monthy fee, is there a HD DVR i can buy today that doesn't require a monthy fee to use. I mean I never had to pay a monthy fee to use my VCR and DVD recorder so I'm not about to now just to record in HD

I mean I never had to pay a monthy fee to use my VCR and DVD recorder so I'm not about to now just to record in HDIf you have an old TiVo lying around somewhere, you can buy one of those refurbs and add lifetime (no fees) for $399. If you don't have a TiVo lying around, then the fee-less version will cost you $699 (http://www3.tivo.com/tivo-promo/show.do?pg=/buytivo/hdgift.html), although that price does include the 802.11g wireless adapter.

If you are only using OTA, then the Echostar TR-50 HDTV DVR (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=972197) coming in July would be another option. That DVR should cost less than $500.

Tivo HD has nothing to do with DIRECTV. It's OTA and cable only. List price for a refurb is $249 on the Tivo site ($299 for a new unit).

i may have jumped the gun and bought this.. damn, what are other CURRENT options? under $300 that i should think about?There aren't any other options under $400 if you want HD. There are no other [non-PC] options period if you want to watch one channel while recording another, or record two channels simultaneously.

But as I noted, the Sling TR-50 will be another option for OTA when it is released in 4-5 months.
