I'm looking for a projector to meet the specific needs of my room and searches on Projector Central have come up empty. I'm wondering if it's because the PC database in inaccurate or incomplete or because what I'm asking for doesn't exist.
You can take a look at my build thread link below. I currently have a W10000 for my yet unfinished room. The problem is that the limited zoom on the PJ (and large size) is forcing it into a giant box in the middle of the room, which is aesthetically unpleasing and somewhat hazardous for taller guests.
I'm wondering if there's anything out there I can get instead that will perform as well but allow my to place it in the rear soffit. My original thought was an RS2, but I'm not sure it has the lumen output I'm looking for. My room is completely light controlled and my screen is 1.2 gain. Based on that, it looks like I need about 1000 lumen output to achieve acceptable brightness.
Here is what I'm looking for:
1080 resolution
1000 lumens (or more) based on the above info
compatibility w/ anamorphic lens (vertical stretch)
throw ratio that will work for a 120" diag 16:9 screen at 20'
lens shift
Or should I forget the lumen issue and go with the RS2? Or stick with the W10000 because it's the best for my application?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Let's say around $5k or less.
To help the anamorphic issue, I'll also accept a PJ recommendation + external processor if the package doesn't go too far over my budget and the overall PQ will be similar to that of a better PJ in the first place.

Why would you want an anamorphic lens with a 1.78 screen?

I suppose you might be changing screens in the future?
The RS2 is more than 5K in most circumstances. It is a great projector and can handle the throw issue. With the room you describe and your screen size, I don't think brightness will be an issue, but I guess it is what you are used to.
Even though the W10000 has a higher lumen in spec. I bet that the RS2 will be brighter in theater mode at D65. The RS1 is even brighter for that matter, but it doesn't have VStretch.

Sorry... I was mentioning that as an easy reference for screen size. I have a 2.35 CIH setup that is vertically masked to to the 120" 1.78 screen.

I haven't spent a lot of time w/ the W10000, so I don't really have any expectations either way. The RS2 is almost 1/2 the lumens in spec, but the consensus seems that I shouldn't worry about it. Projector Central calculator says I'm going to want more light output also. I guess I could roll the dice and hope for the best.
Assuming the RS2 is out of my price range, what's my next best option?

I'd also recommend the RS2. I'm running mine on a 120" wide .85 gain screen and it is acceptable even after a few hundred hours on the bulb.
Of course you'll need a lens for that. If you can at all swing it, you shouldn't be dissapointed, unless you're used to light cannon type output. :D

How about the Sony VW60? It has pretty good brightness, CMS, a more flexible processor. Not as bright as the RS1, but has more internal control. It fits the budget and is a great projector. It uses the iris to increase contrast.
Another option that would fall in under your 5K budget would be a RS1+ a Lumagen VP.(not the Radiance as it would be out of the budget.) This could handle your aspect/scaling needs as well as add some more ports etc.
I really like the iris-less contrast of the JVC LCOS units. I personally would go with the Lumagen+RS1 combo, but if you don't want to deal with a VP. Then the VW60 would be a good choice.
As for lumens etc. I just looked at an old WSR that had a BenQ DLP in it.
The BenQ lumen spec for this one (PE8700) was 1000 lumens. Calibrated to D65 it was measured at 320 lumens. So generally speaking, a 1200 lumen BenQ at D65 would still realistically output less than 400 lumens.
Greg Rogers Measured the RS1 at 595 Lumens Normal and 703 in High at D65 calibrated.
For the RS2 he measured 603 Lumens in High and 502 in Normal.

I would not worry about the light output. Though I am not dismissing it, the moment someone says they need more than 1000 lumens and their budget is less than $20k, I have to say this. Really there are virtually none that truly achieve that level in your budget. That being said, I think the RS2 would be a good competitor. It has all the features you require (besides light output) and really would be an improvement over your current projector.
