Anyone have theatrical style stage lighting (PAR type lights) in their theater?
See, e.g.
http://www.music123.com/Chauvet-PAR-38-Stage-Lighting-Fixture-806135-i1169318.Music123
Thinking about mounting a few of these on the theater ceiling (toward side/rear of theater to keep them out of the way) and aiming towards stage for "party mode" lighting scene (no projector, for kids playing, disco, etc.).
Anyone do this, have recommendations, etc.?

Beware Par's get hot as hell. They were designed to be mounted in open air on trusses etc. Maybe look into some micro Par's?

"micro Par" I like that. Will look it up.
On the PARs, I like the theatrical lighting style more than I need light output, so perhaps a low wattage bulb to address the heat issues.

I used PAR20 track lighting rather than the PAR38 lighting you are showing. Mine looks more "traditional", but there are "theater sytle" lights available as well.
My plan is to use them mostly as reading lights for whn I want to read/listen to usic in the room. They can also provide some nice directed light on the seating areas for eating/football games/etc/ without washing out the screen much.
I've got 2 big, theater style lights that I picked up in my travels but I believe they are just the housings... I planned on putting my own, smaller fixtures inside of them. But, now that I am in the construction phase I realize that I don't have room for them anyway. My point is that you can make almost anything into a light source if you are creative enough.
Have you looked into LED lighting? zero heat. I bought one to test out for same reason in my theater. Haven't done much with it yet though. It can't so some colors(Yellow/Orange) but does others well (Green/Blue/Red/Pink). It doesnt seem to put out a very even mix of color (blue outside/ring, red center) either. I may still use 3-5 of them above the screen as think mixed it will look good. It has DMX control that a controller can run sceenes. Made by Chauvet. There are some others too. Might want to check them out.

Good idea - I have seen these. I'd like them controlled (dimmed) by the Graphix Eye; not sure this can be done (perhaps using the 0-10v output module to a corresponding input on a dmx controller).
The type I have cannot. They are DMX driven only. Hoever I do recall seeing a X10 to DMX controller/interface that might. I don't have the details on it but expect you could do a web search for it.
