I just got a Motorola unit signal booster and splitter at same time. I hooked before my 8300 HD to split signal, and while I was having the FDC and QAM levels at 4 and 5 db respectively in white color, now they're up to 11 and 15 db in orange color. Is the color something I should worry about ? I was told that orange will appear if I'm below normal, but here I'm up and getting orange color. And I do not know what's FDC or QAM by the way. Thanks.

I believe the normal input signal range for the 8300HD is something like -6 dBm to +6 dBm. Either too low or too high an input signal level can result in reception problems with digital tuners. Your original "4 and 5 db" are I assume actually +4 and +5 dBm values and those are already toward the upper end of the desired input signal levels and additional amplification will at best provide no benefit and if too much can overload the 8300HD's tuner. Also QAM is the signal modulation method (i.e., Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) used by cable companies to delivery the TV signals for the digital channels over the cable system.
Thanks, reason I'm doing it, is I'm getting another terminal to another room. I'm not looking for benefits, just not to loose original signal. From your post, can I deduct that just a splitter without amplification would do ? Also, does overloading the tuner damage it in some way? Thanks.
