I don't know if this is the place to post. I have a jvc 61fn97. I have been planning to put the tv in a cabinet, rather than on a stand for aesthetics.

I will probably have one custom built because I want the stand/console part to be less than 20" in height and most stands I've seen are 24" or higher.

I will also keep accessory equipment (hd-dvr, ps3, ups, vcr/dvr) inside the console with glass doors.

My questions are as follows:

1. how will being in a cabinet affect the fan noise of the tv?
2. how will being in a cabinet affect the ability of the fans (for all equipment) to cool the equipment?
3. should I have a certain amount of clear space between the cabinet walls and the tv?
4. any acoustical materials I should think about for the interior walls of the cabinet?
5. any suggestions for cleaning/dusting behind the tv while in a cabinet so that one person can manage it without having to lift the set?

thanks.

I apologize in advance if this has been covered before, I only had time to look through a few threads before lunch was over!

I have a 61" TV and built my own cabinet as most of the bids I got were $3500. I built mine, which looks good, but very basic for $200.

If your TV is in a cabinet, it should reduce fan noise if it's on the sides or back.

You can have fans custom built into a cabinet with a 12volt trigger or a switch. Most professional cabinet designers will have a solution for air flow. Think convection cooling.

Most cabinets will needs some space for plugs and ventilation, but not a lot.

Not sure why you would need acoustic materials unless you're planning on having your speakers built in as well.

I built my cabinet with felt feet as it sits on hardwood floors. However, if you're having a professional build the cabinet, you can have hidden wheels put on. Then you can pull the whole cabinet out from the wall and remove one of the rear doors to clean behind it. That's what I've done and it works well, my girlfriend hasn't complained at all.

Anyway.. There are quite a number of custom cabinet builders. I built a credenza, which isn't a cabinet, but it's what I wanted. Works perfectly for my needs. My shelves have dampers on the pins and the helps reduce any noise that might be cause from the vibration of the sub. Unfortunately there's other things in my house the shake.

I was able to find the dimensions that I needed in a cabinet from Home Decorators. It's not exactly a media cabinet but it meets the dimensions that I needed

H 35 1/2
W 63
D 20

Dimensions inside of the cabinet are 17 1/4 D and 58 W. Pretty nice considering it retails for around 450 with shipping. It will hold more components than I could possibly ever need and its beautifully finished in a mission style.

Thanks, you actually mentioned some things I hadn't considered for my design, that would work very well.

Hi, the link didn't work, however, I bookmarked the site for future browsing. Thanks. My main problem with most of the units out there is that they are for tvs without a base. My base makes my tv 44 inches tall and most cabinets that I've seen and liked have only about 35 inches of height, even though they are wide and deep enough.

here is my jvc 61fn97

My cabinet is a monster and it cost $7000 DIY, custom cost would have been $25K!!

I built it using cabinets all put together from a local wood funiture store. (woodyou.com) They just ordered everything from a catalog for me, we attached all the individual cabinets together and trimed it out nicely and had the painters paint it. its 10' H x 20' W.

Unfinished....

One thing to consider. I build my cabinet 22" deep. After putting my equipment in, I'm glad I made the decision because the interconnect cables stick-out quite a bit. I have 5.1/7.1 surround and those interconnects need room.

My cabinet has 3 sections across and is 76" wide. The components sit on the left and right side each has 19" width of room. The center section has a non-moveable shelf with a center support that supports the length of the shelf. My center channel sits on that shelf. The bottom two sections of the center shelf have room to hold game consoles or media. I put holes on the backside of the center shelf and on the inner walls of the cabinet for wiring. The surge protectors are in the middle behind the center channel speaker.

My amp requires a lot of power if fully used and I put in a separate circuit for the entertainment system. It works well and is a 20 amp circuit.

Now that is a beautiful cabinet. Son-of-a....... :p

What kind of speakers are those? They kind of look like my Klipsch. Can't see very well.
