I had thought about back lit light boxes in my stairs but I wanted to have them flush. Well both walls ar load baring and thus would require extensive work (more than I want for now for the payoff). I therefiore want to light with track lights on my present posters. I need options that can hang down from the high ceiling to throw more directional light on the posters. Any links to great options wopul be appreciated.
There are some track lighting heads which are stem mounted like this:

But the longest stem in this example is 24". Problem is most are low voltage, so the stem lengths are somewhat limited because of voltage drop.

Thanks ! Now is 24" likely the limit on the length one will find ?

I did a quick search of a few web sites I am familiar with and 24" seems to be the limit. I looked at Tech Lighting, LBL Lighting and WAC Lighting. Tech also has this type:

in which the two arms can be 42" each.
How about picture lighting which mounts on the wall above each poster?

I always favor a small close to ceiling fixture - you can get very small MR11 track heads on small track with very narrow spot bulbs (as low as 8 degree beam spread) - see:

For heads - how about these (note that these are about 1/3 the size of a typical track head - I am using them for house lighting with MR11 floods - exactly the opposite of your application)

It looks like an option except it says the shipping is more difficult and they are non returnable for the extentions.
extensions
All low voltage track lighting heads may be ordered with an optional 18”, 24”, 36” or 48” extension, which serves to increase the distance between the track and the head of the fixture with a rigid tube.

I bought my track lighting from usalight.com They have extensions up to 48", although I'd agree with dbbarron - if you can get a narrow spread beam aimed at the poster from higher up, I think that would look better than the extension.

My preference is to use existing ceilng electrical for simplicity and it will allow me to use the same track to light the signage around the ticket booth.
