I didn't know there is a German version, but I know there is a Studio Canal (French) release. Unfortunately, no English audio or subs though.

Yep, Ran is a title I would never buy again unless it was universally accepted as a good upgrade.
I wasn't the only one that was fooled by the Fox/Lorber disasterous "restored" version they put out.
Unless Criterion does it, I will wait and see and be happy with that 2 disc set.

Stay away from the French Ran version. SD resolution, basically.

with its vivid colors and innumerable medium and long shots, Ran is a title that is crying out for a proper hi-def release. let's hope someone does it right in hi-def eventually.
