Hi , I have just set up an Infocus 7210 last week. Looks great, however,

I am using Component input for both Blu ray and HD DVD. Why does 720p look blurry compared to 1080i ? No matter how I fiddle with the projector I can't get 720p anywhere near as sharp as 1080i.

Would a HDMI to M1 cable help with this??

also Is a ND2 filter neccessary with an HCMW 92" da-lite screen??
Blacks are looking pretty good to me. Anyone else using the same screen with a 7210 ??

cheers :)

Is this a new machine or does the bulb have significant hours on it?

I would have thought that 92" was on the small size for a 7210 with a new bulb.

However, if you're not seeing rainbows and the black levels are acceptable, I'd leave well enough alone.

What is your source? It may have trouble outputting 720p.

Assuming you have 16:9 A.R. with overscan turned off, any lack of sharpness must be a function of how well your Blu-ray/HD DVD player is downscaling from 1080 to 720.

You can try selecting native, when the player is outputting at 720p, but I doubt if this would cause any improvement. Just keep your high-def players set to 1080 out and don't worry about it or buy a player with better scaling capabilities.

Some incompetent players output 720P as an upconvert of the 480P they downconverted from the 1080i. They may also be doing component output image constraint copyright protection when they should not be.

I think I saw some mention of the fact that the 7210 does not de-interlace 1080i properly but instead uses a simple bob method. If that's true, then if one could scale a 1080p source down to 720p in the player and do it well, that would be the preferable to sending the 1080 signal to the 7210.
