I just want a high quality low priced (oxymoron) DVD player that will upconvert regular dvd's to my new 50 inch Panasonic 720P Plasma TV thru HDMI.

I want high quality and no problems. Right now I have the Samsung 931 DVD player and it works with no problems. I've been looking at the Onkyo SP405.

This might sound crazy but your best best might be one of the Toshiba HD-DVD players. I got an HD-A2 for 75 bucks a couple weeks ago and it's noticeably better at upconverting than anything else I've tried (including the PS3 and Pioneer and Sony players which cost upward of $250).

I mentioned this player at a blu-ray forum and was practically crucified for it, but if you want an upconvert DVD player you certainly can't do any better for the price.

i have the a2 and a30; with sd dvds the a30 @1080i produces an slightly sharper image w better color and definition thru my 720p hd pj onto 108" screen than the a2 which isnt bad.
