I recently purchased the klipsch rw-12d sub(no I didn't audition it before I bought it) but it seems boomy to me it doesn't seem to produce the tight punchy bass that I would like even with the frequency all the way down , I'm under the impression that it has a lot to do with the receiver that I'm currently using (sony DA-90ESG) which was my fathers before mine so I know its old. Has any one listened to or auditioned this sub on a good receiver and if so was it boomy on that receiver I hope that the receiver is my only problem.

please help
Greg

While the reciever may play a role it is the room you have it in will make the biggest difference.

I suggest you do a little research on proper placement and then see if you can find a better place where the response is smoother.

what are your crossover settings and gain? Have you level matched the sub?

You need to measure the response of your sub at your listening position. It's quite likely you have a large peak in your bass response which is why your sub sounds boomy. This peak is due to the room and the way bass frequencies interact with it, it's not necessarily the fault of your sub. You can mitigate room issues somewhat by spending the time experimenting with the placement and phase contol of the sub.

I agree, its going to come down to sub placement and you taking some time setting it up. I know when i just put mine next to my other speakers and turned it on it sounded horrible. Once I took some time to set everything properly it now sounds amazing.

so I'm going to assume there is a topic or thread about this

There are many - here is a very detailed one.

Ok I can figure out the hole proper placement thing but how can I adjust my crossover on that receiver I cant figure it out and its really getting to me.

Your receiver's manual should discuss setting the crossover point.

http://www.jocaviacousticpanels.com/pt/produtos/sint.roundbasscorner/cores/round_012.jpgplace the sub in front of you, middle of front wall, try 20-60cm from the wall.
test the phase also.
now it's paramount a room be treated correctly for bass fq. no EQ can do miracles
the basic must happen before, EQ is just there for the last small touches
put resonator(s) in the corners, build a raiser/bass trap.
bass reflex often have a tendency to be a bit slow, due in part to the venting system.
a close box sub can be tighter. also the woofer size should often be properly matching the room volume. the larger the room, the larger the woofer can/should be.

but really, ABSORB. especially in the corners. it does MIRACLES.
and absorbing bass means resonators. like this http://www.jocaviacousticpanels.com/uk/products/synt.basscorner/index.shtml

typical foam has no function here, worthless.

bass always go into corner and build up there, sucking themselves out of the middle of the room. you want to dramaticly lower the bass from the corners and re-even them in the room and raise them at the listening position. if possible sometimes the listening position has to be modified.
there's never too much bass aborption either.

hi
no, place this resonator in one corner. try a corner on yr rear left or right.
there's nothing to bolt. just place it on floor. leave perhaps a few cm from each wall.

here is how the room is setup but remember is not proportionate

o yea where i sit on the couch is 11ft from the sub and 10-11ft ft from the 2 towers is there a better spot that you could think of for the sub to be placed

definitely; place the sub on the right of the tv, directed at you, since yr' close to the wall. adjust the phase till it "feels" the best (level, in phase with the towers)
sometimes moving the sub even 4in can make a difference too.
a corner placement can boost up to 18db but it makes it localisable and boost the whole response so a FQ that is already in excess in the room is even more.
thx recommends indeed with one sub a front middle placement and it works very often (depends on seating position also)
avoid openings, bass 'leave' the room

so your saying move the sub to the other side of the room between the tv and other speaker because its currently in the corner.
