How about telling us exactly what receiver it is and exactly what subwoofer you have?

If i remember correctly, this receiver does not have a sub out as you mentioned. nor does it have any other type of digital pre-out to plug into your powered sub.

i believe it doesn't even have a center ch speaker output...

it was a great reciever in its time, just a bit outdated. I recomend replacement. :-/

PS- is this a 2, 4, or 5 ch reciever? and how many watts per channel?

Use speaker wire from the receivers Front Speaker Terminals to the High Level Input Terminals on the sub then connect your front speakers to the subs High Level output Terminals.

The only place I could find any information on it is Ebay auction number 250222030285 has some decent pics of the rear, looks like it supports 5 channels but doesn't have a sub pre out so connecting to the subs high level inputs should work fine.

The sellers specs are

AVERAGE POWER OUTPUT of 125 WATTS PER CHANNEL
BUILT-IN DIGITAL DELAY DOLBY SURROUND CIRCUIT
MOTOR DRIVEN LARGE VOLUME KNOB WITH LED RED INDICATOR
VIDEO SIGNAL SELECTOR
The following inputs: PHONO; CD, LINE, TAPE 1; TAPE 2; VIDEO; TV; VCP; VCR1; VCR2; VCR3;
DOLBY PRO LOGIC SURROUND
AND A LOT MORE...

And he states it's based on the Elite line. Whether that's true, I have no clue. Looks like it was a nice receiver back in its day though.

There are no high level outputs on the sub.

I would suggest using the high level inputs connected in parallel to your front speakers. I think this is the best solution after looking at the back of your receiver. You do have 5 channel output, but no program output or sub out.:(

the vsx-9500s looks like my vsx-5600. nice, reliable unit.

i think you have two fairly straightforward hookups available. you could go with the high level hookup by running speaker wire from the 'b' speaker output on the pioneer to the athena. or you could go with the low level output by running a 'y' connector to rca cable from the tape-out on the pioneer to the line in on the athena. the low level hookup would probably be better, but either method should work ok, and as a 'bonus' you could easily bring the sub in or out of the loop using the 'b' speaker or tape in/out buttons on remote or the front panel.

good luck!

Can not use the tape out jacks. They are at a fixed level and not controlled by the volume. Also, the sub does have high level inputs.Just run two pairs of wires from the Front (A) speaker terminals on the receiver. One goes to the front speakers and the second to the high level inputs on the sub. Set the front L & R to large.Do not use the B speaker outputs.
