Alright in the next few months I plan on starting my home theater, got to finish the paperwork for the condo first ( 3 weeks to closing), but I have been dreaming, so maybe I am starting my thread early. :D but I like to be ahead of the game, and have everything planned out. So I am seeking knowledge from the avs forums.

The basement is L-shaped ( I will have to post a diagram at a later date), the main room is 11 x 23. The L part of the area is only 7 x 15, more of a hall. I got to put a bedroom/office down there, so that will leave about 11 x 13 for the theater room. The basement is unfinished, but I plan on getting the electrical done, then starting the drywall. I plan on running video and audio wires in the walls also. Then finish the Carpet sometime down the road

One of my concerns is there a large window that like 3 feet by 3 feet, for people that have windows in there theater rooms, do you usually just get some dark curtains to cover it up?

Equipment
I planned on putting a projector in, not sure which one but plan on staying in the $800 to $1000 price range for a 720p.

I was thinking about making of the homemade screens buying the white boards from Lowes or Home Depot. As for screen size, I think I would be happy with anything over 90” but over 100 would be cool, but I don’t think I have enough distance going the long way… 13 feet.

I have a Panasonic box surround sound I will use for now. And plan upgrading to a receiver that can do 3 HDMI inputs to 1 output ( was looking at a sony STR-DG910).

Not sure on what to do for speakers, I am not a huge audio person, but I do want something that sounds good. So if someone finds speakers in the range of 300 dollars for a sub and 5 speakers, let me know.

I have a HTPC that I plan on upgrading the sound card, and getting a new HD tuner that will be hooked up, I am going the cheap route, and going HD OTA only…

I already have a Xbox 360 for gaming. Future upgrades could include a PS3 for blu-ray and/or a Wii.

Seating
I am assuming this would be too small for 2 rows for seats? If anything I would do 1 row right now, and in the future add another row. But overall I am still undecided on seating yet.

Pricing

The biggest issue with this theater is the budget!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Construction 3 to 4K (I plan on doing most of the work myself)

800 Projector
500 Receiver
350 speakers
100 Screen
50 to 100 Ceiling Mount
200 HTPC upgrades

I love reading about other peoples project’s, so I will keep you updated with mine.

Tony, Congrats on the new pad.

I have two double windows in my HT. Hopefully I will have them treated before you get started. I've chosen to use blackout blinds on mine. There are many other options. Just browse the forum and you will see.

As for upgrading your equipment; Hold off until you get almost done. I would also recommend purchasing a receiver that is HDMI 1.3 capable especially if you are going to use a PS3. Check out the Audio forums.

Also post some photos as you are planning. The guys here can help you preserve your precious budget by eliminating rework.
