Hi,

I have a Fosgate Audionics FA15.0 downfiring powered sub with rear vent. First the sub blew, then the amp went out (3rd time). It's a HUGE sub cabinet so I used it to mount a Cadence Sub into it and ran a Bazooka 750 watt sub hooked to external power supply (hey it works!). It was sounding good and hitting hard AND tight surprisingly for a 15" sub but I new main speakers and now for some reason the sub sounds terrible. New speakers are BG Radia 520's with 50" ribbon panels. Now the sub has sloppy bass and it isn't tight no matter how much time I spend adjusting it.

So, time to buy a new sub. My sub sits in the REAR corner of the room and my chair is within hand's reach of the sub. My current sub is downfiring and rear vented. Im worried it will sound terrible if I bought a front ported sub as I sit right in front of the port. Also wouldn't I hear the sub vibration if it was front firing as opposed to down firing? Finally, I use my sub for more music than movies, but I like a LOT of good tight bass. I listened to a Definitive supercube a few years ago but it didn't have enough bass so I bought the Fosgate Audionics 15. I like to hear bass AND feel bass.

I've been looking at the SVS SB12plus, the eB A5-350 and A3-300, the Outlaw LFM-1EX, the AV123 MFW-15, and Hsu VTF2.2.

They are all ported differently and all fire differently. Some are 12" and some are 15". So, for audio applications sitting close to my chair in the corner? What should I look for and buy?

Ted, the SVS SB12-Plus that you mentioned is a small sealed sub. It most likely will not give you as much bass as you seem to want. The ported SVS subs are the ones that start with PB or PC. Those would give you more bass. Many of the subs you mentioned were tested by Craigsub. Take a look at his list for some comparisons.

The Outlaw sub is almost identical to the HSU VTF3 Mk3 w/o the Turbo.

i actually meant the SVS PB12-NSD which I am starting to shy away from VS the eD sub. Only this is the eD subs take 2 MONTHS to get to my door!

Craig rated the MFW-15 very high. I have the ED A7S-450 (sealed 18" with 1,300 watts) it is a very good sub for music and due to its size it does well for HT. I would highly recommend it.
