I know it's been asked many times before...I am looking to replace a Velodyne CT-125. It will be used mainly for LFE for DVDs, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. Sometimes for SACDs and DVD-A. Thanks in advance!

View Full Version : Best Sub $500-$800 Range audiomixer 03-06-08, 06:34 PM I know it's been asked many times before...I am looking to replace a Velodyne CT-125. It will be used mainly for LFE for DVDs, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. Sometimes for SACDs and DVD-A. Thanks in advance! BluLover 03-06-08, 06:38 PM For me, it has been the HSU VTF-3 MK3. $800 shipped. It is an excellent, powerful, classy looking sub with great fit and finish. chengbin 03-06-08, 07:35 PM For $800, you're best choice is the MFW-15 for $599 + $100 shipping. It ranked really really high on Craig's list. But the catch is that it is backordered, so you have to wait 2 months to get it. Pibbo 03-06-08, 07:37 PM For me, it has been the HSU VTF-3 MK3. $800 shipped. It is an excellent, powerful, classy looking sub with great fit and finish. I just ordered a VTF-2 Mk3, and I'm expecting to be blown away. However, my room's really small so I don't necessarily need something as powerful as the MFW-15, which I was considering before. I just couldn't stand to wait that long either. However, OP, if you CAN wait, the MFW-15 is probably (definitely) the best for HT in your pricerange. audiomixer 03-06-08, 07:48 PM However, OP, if you CAN wait, the MFW-15 is probably (definitely) the best for HT in your pricerange. Where can I order one of these? It is an excellent, powerful, classy looking sub with great fit and finish. I would have to agree +1.:D Stix2 03-07-08, 07:15 AM May aswell toss in the A7S-450 $775. Add $85 more for the 1300amp instead of the 550 if wanted. audiomixer 03-10-08, 05:22 PM bump. jvgillow 03-10-08, 08:53 PM bump. Have you already checked out the manufacturers listed above? Didn't like what you saw or what? Craigsub already listed the best ones to look at. My best sub in the 500-800 range was an HSU, but that's probably because it's the only sub I've bought in the 500-800 range :D lrstevens421 03-10-08, 09:02 PM I would have to agree +1.:D +2, I have the gain turned about about 15% in my roughly 21 x 15 ft room and I can't believe how good this thing sounds. I recently purchased the turbo attachment then realized that I didn't need it. The 3.3 is an incredible sub, equally good for HT and Music. Glowing Review: http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/subwoofers/vtf-3-mk3-sub/?searchterm=mk3 HSU, SVS, ED, AV123, Epik....There are a lot of good choices in this price range. audiomixer 03-11-08, 07:25 PM Thanks to all of you. I don't mind the wait...my Velodyne works, it just craps out on ultra LFE...I just have to turn it down. I'm sure it will be worth the wait! floridapoolboy 03-11-08, 07:59 PM I ordered my Outlaw LFM-1EX and I had it in a week! Great sub, great price, very similar in performance to the VTF-3 Hsu series, since Hsu helped design them! slow ride 03-11-08, 08:48 PM Thanks to all of you. I decided of the AV123 MFW-15...and, yes, I will have to wait. Estimated delivery date: July 2008. Is it july now? Are all finishes that long? thats a joke. ribbit 03-11-08, 09:03 PM Is it july now? It seems all the good brands are encountering issues huh? sdobrien 03-11-08, 10:26 PM SVS PB12-NSD with the new driver and amp. mikedabike 03-11-08, 10:44 PM I wonder why there is such a backlog? It seems all the good brands are encountering issues huh? I walked in HSU and walked out 15 minutes later with a VTF 2/3. I had to wait 15 minutes becuase they had to get it from the other warehouse.:p OUMoneyMan 03-12-08, 12:24 AM I wonder why there is such a backlog? It seems all the good brands are encountering issues huh? AV123, ED and Epik are providing better performing subs at lower prices than other manufacturers right now. They couldn't have expected the flood of orders they've received the past 4 months as they've brought their new products to market. |
