Hey all I have a relatively short TV stand for my gaming room and recently came into a free nice center speaker. Only problem it is to tall to fit on either of the stands shelfs, and if I set it in front of the TV it cuts off the bottom 2 inches of the screen. Versus buying a whole new stand just for the free center channel, do you think I could easily make a riser for the TV to bring it up a couple inches and keep it stable? The stand is wood so I was thinking I could get a solid piece paint it to match and either glue or screw it to the top just to bring the TV up a bit.

Any thoughts?

Hey Will. I had the same issue to deal with; a Sony 46XBR6, and a new (3 months ago) Energy RC-LCR center speaker. I needed to raise the TV 2 1/2 inches. Right now I have some pieces of shelving under the TV, but I'm not crazy about how it looks (even though it's almost hidden by the speaker).
So, I just made a riser. I found a website that sells woodworking supplies at reasonable prices, Rockler Woodworking.
I bought a piece of baltic birch plywood, 1/2" thick, 12" wide, 30" long:

And eight mini-bun feet (the 2" high mini-tulip style):

I cut the birch ply to a bit over 19" long to match the width of the speaker. The 12" width and 19" length of the ply is now just the right size for the base of my TV, and is pretty much hidden by the speaker. I glued 4 of the feet at the corners, and the other 4 further in so as to give complete support for the TV. It's stained, and now I just need to give it a light coat of polyurethane and put felt pads on the feet. The additonal nice aspect is that I'll be able to run the speaker cable under the riser, instead of around the TV's base.
The whole project, including a small can of stain and a small bottle of yellow woodworking glue from Lowe's, came to about $30.
